Chapter 920 Slap
Curtis had never felt so humiliated in his entire life.
Right in front of him, Avery turned into a leech, clinging to him like her life depended on it.
Curtis reached out and slapped Avery across the face. "I regret it! If I had married Rosalie back then, everything would be different now! You're absolutely right."
Avery staggered back.
Curtis had smacked her to the ground, her cheek throbbing with pain.
Curtis let out a long breath. "With Rosalie as my wife and Natalie as my daughter, my life would be perfect. I'd have a loving family, a graceful wife, and a kind-hearted daughter."
Around them, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Curtis straightened his suit, making sure there wasn't a wrinkle in sight, got into his car, and drove off, completely ignoring Avery lying on the ground.
After hearing those words and getting slapped, Avery seemed to be in a daze.
She didn't say a word, just lay there, not moving at all.
The security guard from the Howard family couldn't stand it anymore and came over to help Avery up.
After all, she had fallen right at the entrance of the Howard Mansion.
Avery's spirit seemed crushed as she was guided to a bench by the security guard, sitting there like a statue of despair.
There was a distinct handprint on Avery's cheek, clear evidence that Curtis had used a lot of force and was truly regretful.
His next step was probably to divorce Avery.
After the divorce, he would marry Rosalie.
Thinking of Rosalie, Avery seemed to regain a bit of strength.
She stumbled to her feet, rubbed her burning cheek, and took a cab to the police station to visit Alice.
Alice was going through a tough time inside.
Alice had been pampered all her life, with people doting on her even if she hurt a finger. Now, in the cold police station, although she had three meals a day, it was nothing like what she was used to. Her clothes reeked, her makeup was running, and her black eyeliner had turned into dark streaks, making her look utterly wretched. Moreover, Alice had recently had surgery, and her wound had just healed, leaving her with no strength at all.
Seeing Avery come to visit her, Alice burst into tears. "Mom, when are you going to get me out of here?"
Alice saw the handprint on Avery's face. "Mom, what happened to you?"
Avery hugged her, and they cried together.
Alice whimpered, "Who bullied you? Who dares to bully you! Mom, if I get out, I won't let that person off."
Avery usually spoiled Alice and knew very well what kind of person Alice was—arrogant and domineering. But now, only Alice truly loved her and cared about her.
Avery hugged Alice. "Alice, I only have you. Don't worry, no matter what it takes, I will get you out of here!"
Alice immediately understood that it was Curtis who had hit Avery.
"Did you have a fight with Dad?" Alice thought it was her situation that had caused their unhappiness. "Mom, Sandra's injury isn't serious. She just wants to take revenge on me! When I get out, I won't let Sandra off!"
"Alice, stay here for a couple of days. I promise that I will get you out," Avery said.
