Chapter 450 Conclusive Evidence

The third floor was Austin Reynolds' turf, the eldest son of the Reynolds clan. It was off-limits for everyone else in the family. Ever since Xavier got seriously sick, no one dared to set foot up there.

Austin, Xavier's pride and joy, got wrecked in a car crash and was stuck in a hospital bed for life. There was some shady business behind that crash, involving rich folks' drama. The jerk who caused it? Never caught.

After the crash, some drunk dude took the fall and confessed.

Austin, who used to be all high and mighty, was now down and out.

Nicholas made his way to the room at the end of the third floor.

Brian was chilling on a bench outside. When he spotted Nicholas, he got up. "Mr. Nicholas Reynolds."

Nicholas gave him a nod. "I'm gonna check on Austin."

He stepped into the room, and the smell of disinfectant hit him hard. There was a big bed, some fancy but simple furniture, an oxygen machine, and a bunch of medical gadgets.

The guy in the bed looked just like him.

Pale as a ghost, with brown hair.

Austin opened his eyes and managed a smile. "Nicholas."

Nicholas walked over, lips tight. "You're awake."

Austin nodded. "Yeah, just woke up. My head's killing me."

Seeing Nicholas about to call the doc, Austin stopped him. "I'm good. Just been lying here too long."

Nicholas said, "Take it easy and don't stress. I'll set up a special check-up for you tomorrow. The results from two months ago were solid. Doc said you're on the mend."

Austin shook his head. "No need to sugarcoat it. I know my own body."

Nicholas went quiet for a bit.

Austin broke the silence. "Next week, am I supposed to get hitched to that girl from the Swan family?"

Nicholas was caught off guard. "Austin."

Austin sighed. "I feel like I'm just dragging her down."

Nicholas wanted to say something comforting, but Austin cut him off. "Nicholas, can you do me a favor? I don't want to hold her back."

"This marriage was Grandpa's idea. After he passed, no one brought it up again. Now it's back on the table, probably 'cause Cassidy's ready." Nicholas clenched his fists. "You don't owe the Swan family anything. If they didn't want this, they would've bailed. They're trying to move up to the Reynolds crew but ain't willing to put in the work. That ain't how it goes."

"Nicholas, don't be like that. I won't last many more years. Marrying her would just be a burden. She's young; why waste her best years on me?" He added, "If Miss Swan's that great, you should marry her as the second son of the Reynolds family."

Nicholas looked at Austin, didn't respond, and instead asked, "Did Cassidy swing by today?"

Austin nodded. "Yeah, she did. I was out cold, and Brian turned her away."

Cassidy wanted to check on him, but with Xavier's orders, she didn't push it. She just had a quick chat at the door and left.

Cassidy was involved in that car crash six years ago, but they had no solid proof.
