Chapter 412 Speculation

7 PM, Bayview Villa.

Natalie rolled up to the villa's entrance, juggling two shopping bags. She knocked and waited. She heard a noise inside, but it wasn't Adrian's footsteps. Next thing she knew, the door swung open, and out bounded a big, fluffy white dog. Lucky saw Natalie and went nuts, tail wagging like crazy.

Natalie bent down to give Lucky some head pats and strolled into the villa. She peeked at the empty living room. "Where's Adrian? He not back yet?"

Lucky grabbed her pant leg and started tugging her upstairs. Natalie put her stuff down. "Hold up, Lucky. I gotta hit the kitchen first. Got some beef here."

But Lucky was strong, and Natalie stumbled, having no choice but to follow him upstairs. "Is Adrian home?"

At the top of the stairs, Lucky led her to the study door. She knocked, but no answer. She glanced at Lucky, who was wagging his tail like a maniac, waiting for her to open the door. Natalie turned the lock and pushed it open. Lucky darted in.

Natalie stood in the doorway, looking at the empty study. Adrian still wasn't back.

She thought Lucky wanted her upstairs 'cause Adrian was in the study.

Natalie hadn't been here much, and she'd never been in Adrian's study.

The study was decked out in Adrian's usual style: light gray curtains, black, white, and gray tones, a black leather sofa, and a tall spiral staircase bookshelf.

Natalie walked in.

Lucky picked up a fuzzy toy ball from the carpet by the desk. Natalie chuckled. "So you wanted your toy, huh? Thought Adrian wanted you to bring me here."

Lucky brought the ball over to Natalie.

She took the ball and tossed it forward. "Go fetch."

She looked around Adrian's study, her eyes landing on the documents on the desk. She wasn't trying to snoop, but as she was about to leave, the curtains fluttered, and a cold breeze blew in, sending the papers flying onto the carpet.

She bent down to pick them up.

To her surprise, they were about the investigation into the accident at the recent charity gala.

Natalie skimmed through the pages. It looked like info from some secret investigative agency. The crystal chandelier had been messed with beforehand, so when Alice and Claire walked by, it would fall.

This hotel wasn't just any place; it had cameras everywhere and tight security.

The prime suspects who could pull off something like this had to be from the Howard family.

The report, while discreet, left little doubt in Natalie's mind as to who it was truly about. She tidied up the documents and left the study.

Back downstairs, Lucky had already bolted out to the lawn to play.

Natalie opened the fridge and saw it was empty. Did Adrian never cook at home? The fridge was bare. She took out the beef and some veggies and started prepping dinner.

Her phone buzzed. She glanced at it; Bella was calling.

Lately, Bella had been all up in her business because of the Reynolds family. Natalie was washing veggies, so she wiped her hands and put the call on speaker. "Bella."

Bella jumped right in, "Did you see the news? It says Alice had a miscarriage and fell into a coma while saving Claire. Wasn't she like nine months pregnant and about to pop?"

Natalie nodded. "Yeah, it's been a few days."

Bella asked, "Natalie, where are you? Still at work?"

Natalie replied, "Nah, I'm at a colleague's place, cooking."

Bella sounded skeptical. "She was nine months pregnant. She wanted so bad to marry into the Howard family. How could she give up her baby? You think she did it on purpose?"

Natalie was stunned. She was chopping veggies and accidentally nicked her finger. "Bella, what did you just say?"

Bella kept going, "I was just guessing. She cares so much about her baby and wants to marry into the Howard family. How could she possibly save Claire? She has no connection to Claire. And we know what kind of person Alice is. She's not the type to do something so selfless."
