Chapter 234 You

Adrian sneered. "Ridiculous!" he mocked. "Natalie, do you even know your place? Why would I ever be interested in you? If you hadn't been trying to seduce me, I wouldn't even notice you!"

"Sure," Natalie replied with a sarcastic smile.

She thought, 'How can he ever be interested in me?'

Deep down, Natalie's heart ached a bit.

Cold wind blew rain into the cave.

She shivered. She hadn't expected it to be so cold at night after a scorching morning.

"Mr. Howard, why are you deep in the forest?" Natalie asked, thinking, 'Is he here for me?'

A faint glimmer of hope appeared in Natalie's eyes.

Behind her, Adrian's lips pressed together. In the cave, there was only a flicker of firelight. He looked at Natalie's slender back, his expression stern. "I got lost." After a few seconds, he added, "By chance, I ran into you. Who would have thought you'd be so stupid to wander this far in."

Natalie said slowly, "I'm stupid for wandering into the forest. What about you?"

Adrian gritted his teeth. "Natalie!"

Later that night, Adrian fell into a coma.

Natalie stayed by his side, calling his name, "Adrian, Adrian! Don't fall asleep!"

The cold and his high fever made the situation dire.

She patted his cheeks. "Adrian, open your eyes."

Adrian groggily opened his eyes.

His vision was blurry, and his thoughts were scattered. He vaguely saw the outline of a woman.

Her mouth was moving, and her eyes were very bright. But he couldn't hear what she was saying.

That face gradually overlapped with a young face from his memories.

He thought, 'Is it her?'

Adrian said, "You..."

Darkness engulfed Adrian's vision before he closed his eyes.

Natalie shouted in panic, "Adrian!"

At 3 AM, the rain stopped.

Natalie grabbed a flashlight and ran out of the cave alone. Her foot was severely sprained, and her ankle was swollen, but she couldn't care about her injury. This was a wild forest with plenty of medicinal plants; she had to find something to help Adrian, or he wouldn't survive the fever.

She'd foraged for herbs with Helen before, so she was familiar with many plants, but with the darkness closing in and her limited visibility, she was at a loss.

Suddenly, a blue light exploded in the sky.

A signal flare!

Natalie's heart leapt with hope as she spotted the flare. She made a beeline towards it.

Rescue was on its way!

The ground was slippery and muddy from the rain. Natalie stumbled and fell multiple times, struggling to keep her footing as she raced toward the flare. Rocks and mud made the terrain treacherous, and she found herself repeatedly tripping over obstacles.

Natalie tripped over a rock. She propped herself up with her hands, struggling to get up, but her eyelids grew heavier, and her vision darkened.

It felt like she had used up all her strength.

But Adrian was still waiting for her.

With her hands braced against the ground, she could feel something sharp cutting into her palms and legs.

Breathing heavily and painfully, she pushed herself onward.

At that moment, someone said, "Captain, there's someone here—"

Jack quickly ran over. Seeing Natalie collapsed on the ground, he rushed over and helped her up. Natalie's eyes were wet. She tightly grabbed his arm. "Adrian is in the cave. You need to go quickly. He was bitten by a venomous snake."

Her voice grew weaker. "Hurry..."

After saying that, Natalie slowly closed her eyes.

Jack immediately ordered his men, "Go quickly!"

He took off his gloves and placed his hand on her forehead. Natalie was burning up. Jack looked up at the night sky and calmly instructed his men, "Fire a red flare to alert them that we've found them. The situation is critical; get a helicopter here ASAP!"

"Yes, sir!"

He glanced down at the woman in his arms, removed his gloves, and gently brushed the hair from her face. She was strikingly beautiful—this was the fascinating woman Jamie had mentioned, the one Adrian had ventured so deep into the forest for.

This woman was indeed extraordinary.

In the hospital, Natalie opened her eyes. A nurse, who had been changing her bandages, quickly noticed she was awake and rang the bell for the doctor.

After a check-up, the doctor said, "Well, you're fine now."

Natalie looked around. The air was filled with the smell of disinfectant. This was a hospital.

She had been saved.

The nurse said, "Ms. Teeger, how are you feeling now?"

Natalie glanced at the nurse's name tag. "This is a hospital? How long was I unconscious?"

The nurse replied, "A day. You were brought in at 7 AM yesterday. It's now 8 PM."

Natalie murmured, "You?"

Suddenly, her eyelashes fluttered. She thought, 'What about Adrian?'

Natalie asked, "The man who was brought in with me, how is he?"

The nurse said, "Are you talking about Mr. Howard? He's in room 509."

Natalie got out of bed and went to the door of room 509. The doctor happened to be coming out of the room. As the door opened and closed, Natalie saw Alice inside the room, sitting by the bedside.
