Chapter 1326 From Childhood Lonely, Character Even More Eccentric
"What kind of illness?" Rachel asked, her curiosity piqued.
The servant replied, "Mr. Roach has a problem with his eyes. He can't handle light, so he's basically blind during the day and can only see at night."
Rachel frowned slightly. "Is it albinism?" She remembered learning a bit about it in high school biology, that people with albinism usually had very pale skin and white hair.
But Elmer, the sickly man in question, had normal hair and skin.
The servant shook his head. "I don't know. All I know is he can't see in daylight, and his immune system is really weak. He's always sick and has been frail his whole life. Mr. Isaac is worried about him, so he thought a wedding might bring some joy and life to the house."
Rachel asked, "Where are we? How far is it from Suncrest City?"
The servant knew how Rachel had ended up here but, being loyal to the Roach family, wouldn't betray them.
He simply advised her, "This place is nice, and Mr. Isaac is a good man. Mr. Elmer has been isolated because of his illness and has developed some peculiar habits, but he has a good heart. You won't be worse off here than where you were before."
"I want to go home. I don't want to stay here. My family must be worried sick. They've probably been looking for me for five days now."
The servant said, "Even if I told you where you are, you couldn't leave the island. Mr. Isaac owns this entire island, and without his permission, no boat will take you away."
Rachel lowered her gaze, realizing the extent of their power.
The servant continued, "I heard you haven't eaten in days. The kitchen has prepared a feast. You should go down and eat."
Rachel walked downstairs, her steps unsteady.
What else could she do? For now, there was no immediate danger. She would take it one step at a time and at least fill her stomach.
Rachel was starving.
The dining room was warmly lit.
At the long dining table, Isaac looked at his son. "I've arranged a wife for you. What do you think?"
Elmer simply said, "Whatever makes you happy."
"Good, I'm very happy. It's late now, but tomorrow morning, you'll marry her. It'll bring some joy to our home."
Elmer barely lifted his eyelids. "Whatever."
Isaac smiled and looked up as Rachel descended the stairs. He quickly called out, "Zephyr, come here."
Rachel walked over, her pretty face scrunched up. "I told you, my name isn't Zephyr."
"Then what should we call you?"
Rachel thought for a moment. "Eve."
"Alright, Eve, this is my son Elmer. Get to know each other. You'll be getting married tomorrow."
Rachel looked at the frail Elmer. To be honest, now that he was awake, he didn't look too bad.
His face was quite delicate, like one of the intricate dolls she kept in her display case. But he was clearly very weak, his lips pale.
Elmer glanced at Rachel, his eyes momentarily widening before he looked away.
He had spent most of his life here, rarely seeing women from outside.
Occasionally, some friends from the island would visit him.
Elmer didn't want to stay here, but during the day, his vision was impaired, and he couldn't see.
