Chapter 1410 I Promised Someone
Rachel lowered her eyes, "Niamh, thank you, thank you for telling me about how they're doing."
"Why are you thanking me? We're good friends, there's nothing to thank me for. Do you know how scared I was during the six months you were missing?" Chloe kept crying, choking up, "I panicked completely. When I heard you were gone, I thought, I thought you were just playing a joke and hiding somewhere."
"I'm fine, aren't I? I'm okay." Rachel smiled and pulled out a tissue to wipe Chloe's eyes.
"Niamh... I saw you tonight, and I hope you can keep this secret for me. Don't tell anyone else that you saw me." Knowing that her family was safe, knowing that Adrian and Natalie were okay too - that was good enough.
Rachel had no other wishes.
Chloe nodded.
She understood what Rachel meant.
"Rachel, so you're not coming back to Vachilit anymore?" Chloe gently hugged Rachel and said reluctantly, "I'll miss you, but as long as you're okay, that's what matters. As long as you're happy from now on, that's more important than anything." Chloe was Rachel's good friend, so of course she knew how much Rachel had suffered and endured for Jamie.
Now seeing Rachel emerge from that shadow, Chloe was happy for her too.
"I will go back, of course I'll go back. Vachilit is my home. But right now, I need to stay in Redwood Isle because I promised someone. I need to keep my promise."
That day, actually, Elmer had been ready to let her go.
When she was unconscious, she was actually aware.
In her foggy state, she had heard Elmer's voice.
That Elmer holding her hand, crying and hoping she would wake up.
He said that as long as she opened her eyes.
He would let her go.
Let her go home.
When Rachel opened her eyes, she saw Elmer looking exhausted, as if he had stayed by her side for however many days she had been unconscious. She wanted to leave, but she also wanted to stay and accompany him through the last part of his life.
People aren't made of stone - who can be without feelings? She, Rachel, wasn't a heartless person either.
When someone was good to her, she could feel it.
She admitted that Elmer had moved her.
She didn't know what kind of feeling this was - love? Friendship?
Right now, Rachel wanted to stay by Elmer's side.
Rachel briefly told Chloe about how Mila had locked her in the freezer and how Elmer had saved her.
After hearing this, Chloe clenched her fists in anger on her behalf, "That Mila is too horrible! Does she really think she's some kind of high-society lady? The Bailey family just made their money from oil! Just wait, if I run into Mila, I'll definitely get payback for you!"
"It's all in the past now."
"No, it's not in the past! I heard that Mila will be here today too. Let me go out and look for her. If I see Mila, I definitely won't let her off!"
Chloe grabbed Rachel's hand, "Come on, let's go out and settle the score with Mila!"
"I won't go out." Rachel said, "Right now, I'm Elmer's wife, and also the Howard family's lost daughter. Today at Faye and Mark's engagement party, quite a few people from Vachilit came. If they recognize me, it'll be trouble."
She lowered her lashes, "My family must have used a lot of connections to find me. If they know I'm in Redwood Isle, they'll definitely come to take me away."

Chloe looked at Rachel, hesitated for a moment, and asked, "Do you like Elmer?"

There was sympathy.

Seeing him as a good friend - that was there too.
Being moved - that was there as well.
Isaac said that Elmer didn't have much time left.
He hoped that she would stay with him more on the road ahead.
