Chapter 697 She Has No Dignity Left

Brice hadn't seen Adrian lose his cool and throw hands in ages.

Last time Adrian got all riled up and physical, it was 'cause of Natalie, too.

Meanwhile, Finnian looked like he'd seen a ghost. He was standing at the door, listening to the chaos inside, shaking like a leaf.

Brice shot a glance at Finnian and knew Lucas and Herman were toast. Finnian had Natalie's back this time, so he'd probably be in her good graces.

Brice said, "Finnian, don't be dumb. Don't end up like those two idiots in there, got it?"

Finnian nodded like his life depended on it. "Got it."

He knew he'd picked the right side.

Natalie got in the car and shut her eyes. Her pretty face was pale as chalk. She hadn't said a peep since they left the Imperial Nightclub.

Heather grabbed a clean coat and draped it over Natalie. Natalie's eyes were distant, like she was lost in thought or just faking it.

Out of nowhere, Natalie smiled. "Heather, I'm just Adrian's side piece. If something happens to me, you're screwed, too."

Heather squeezed Natalie's fingers. "No way. Even if that day comes, I'm sticking with you." Heather realized she was being too serious, and the vibe in the car went heavy. She switched to a lighter tone and said, "There are plenty of fish in the sea. Natalie, you're gorgeous, and I'm not too shabby either. If worse comes to worst, just ditch Adrian. The next guy will be even better."

Natalie smiled.

"Thanks for having my back tonight, Heather," Natalie said.

Even though it was brief and Finnian had already gone for help, Heather still stood between her and Herman. Natalie was genuinely touched.

Heather said emotionally, "I'm just repaying your kindness. And you've always been awesome to me, Natalie."

Natalie sighed, "Heather, I wanna go home. I'm beat."

This was all part of the plan, but Natalie felt drained. Between her and Adrian, there was Alice. The word "mistress" made her sick. She never thought she'd end up like this. She'd lost her dignity.

Heather drove all the way to the apartment.

Natalie headed upstairs. Heather wanted to follow, worried, but Natalie waved her off. Back home, the place felt too quiet, almost eerie.

Natalie turned on the TV, flipping through channels just to hear some noise.

Unexpectedly, she saw Alice and herself on the screen.

It was a show called Happiness Like a Song where she had been Alice's stand-in. She didn't expect it to have aired.

The producer was a friend of Samuel's, and Samuel had done a cameo as a favor. But he didn't have many scenes.

Alice didn't have many scenes, either, but they were all done by Natalie as her stand-in.

In the show, Alice was still a rebellious, two-faced girl.

With makeup on, no one realized Natalie was in the show as well.

Even if they thought something was off, they'd find it ridiculous that Natalie was the stand-in.

The sound of a key turning in the lock echoed.

Natalie knew Adrian was back.

She plastered on a smile and looked at Adrian like nothing had happened, saying, "You're back."

Adrian had thought that when he returned, Natalie would throw a fit, given that she had just been wronged.
