Chapter 261 Teardrop Pendant
Alice got to Blue Mountain Community the next day.
She parked at the entrance and followed the address Lizzy gave her.
After getting off the elevator, Alice knocked, but Natalie wasn't home.
Just then, the door across the hall opened. The neighbor saw Alice, all dressed up and wearing sunglasses. "Ms. Teeger, forget your keys?"
Renee and Alice froze like they'd been caught. Renee quickly said, "Yeah, she forgot her keys."
Once the neighbor went back inside, Renee whispered, "Ms. Cullen, Natalie's not home. We can't call a locksmith; it'd be too obvious. You look like her. Why not get a spare key from the property management office?"
Alice usually hated being compared to Natalie, but she smirked. "Renee, you're pretty sharp."
Alice went to the office, claimed she forgot her keys, and got a spare without any trouble. She used it to open Natalie's door.
Renee kept watch while Alice went in. The living room was nicely decorated. Natalie was definitely involved with Mr. Murphy in some capacity to enjoy these benefits.
Alice headed to the bedroom, searching for the pendant Claire mentioned. Natalie didn't have many accessories, but Bella, whose family was in the jewelry business, often gave her small gift boxes with pendants, necklaces, brooches, and bracelets. Natalie's jewelry box was pretty full.
There were several pendants, but not the one Alice wanted.
She opened the nightstand drawer and spotted it—a teardrop-shaped diamond pendant! This had to be it!
Alice's face lit up as she grabbed it. She put everything back in place and quietly left.
Alice smiled at Renee, "Take the key back to the office."
Renee saw Alice's smile and knew she'd found the pendant.
Alice went home and put the pendant around her neck. It looked great. Though the pendant was average quality, it was Adrian's, making it special. Natalie had hidden it well!
If Alice hadn't been clever, who knew what Natalie would've done!
Natalie had worked the night shift and then visited Rosalie at Shoreview General Hospital. Rosalie was awake, which was a relief.
At 11 am, Natalie got home.
She grabbed a quick bite and then crashed on her bed, sleeping until the afternoon.
Her phone woke her up. It was Bella.
Bella said, "Natalie, it's my brother's birthday tonight. My parents booked a room at the Spring Banquet Restaurant. You have to come!"
"Okay, got it." Natalie stuffed her phone under the covers and slept a bit more. When she woke up, it was 5:20 pm.
She showered and changed. Since it was Gordon's birthday, she couldn't look plain. The Swan family had always been good to her, and Bella often helped her. She put on a beige corduroy dress but felt it was too plain, so she opened her jewelry box to look for a brooch. Then she noticed something.
She'd been busy and hadn't worn any jewelry lately. Why were the pendants out of order? She hadn't touched them.
Bella's family sold crystal jewelry, and Bella had given Natalie two rose quartz bracelets, a green phantom bracelet, and several pairs of earrings. Natalie liked to arrange them by color.
Today, the order was off. She hadn't moved them. Who had?
