Chapter 712 Treat Everyone as a Stepping Stone

Mindy's face went ghost-white.

Natalie, cool as a cucumber, said, "Mindy, I don't wanna be too harsh, but when you had Yvonne tailing me, you should've known I wouldn't dig it. I'm all about loyalty, no exceptions."

Natalie had given Mindy and Yvonne a shot.

But they blew it off. Now, it was too late to cry over spilled milk.

"I get it, you don't trust me. You backed Heather, but her footing at Dynamic Entertainment Media is shaky. Even if she makes VP, she can't hold a candle to Karen. Karen's Alice's agent. When push comes to shove, you won't get squat." Mindy was practically begging Natalie to see her side.

Natalie raised her eyes just a bit, her stare icy and detached. She glanced at the jittery Mindy, a faint smirk curling her lips. "And how do you know Karen won't throw me a bone?"

Mindy, in a rush, said, "I've been butting heads with Karen for years. I know her playbook inside out. She's ruthless. We've always been at each other's throats. Now that I'm down, she'll definitely come after you. Natalie, you're being way too naive. Even if you don't like me, you could've just said so. Yeah, I didn't give you enough attention during our partnership, but I did bring you a ton of resources. Without me watching your back, what are you gonna do when Karen comes for you?"

Natalie thought, even now, Mindy could still spin her surveillance and resource-hoarding into something positive.

Mindy really thought Natalie was a sucker.

Natalie pulled out her phone, dialed a number, and put it on speaker.

The call picked up quick.

"Natalie." It was Karen's voice.

Mindy was floored.

Natalie said, "Dynamic Entertainment just threw money at a new historical drama, Legends of Lumina. Wendy's the lead. Have the other roles been cast yet?"

Karen replied, "Nope, still up in the air. Got any suggestions, Natalie?"

Natalie, all casual, said, "Let the newbies at Dynamic Entertainment Media have a shot at the auditions."

"Got it," Karen said, "Anything else, Natalie?"

"Nope." Natalie hung up and looked at Mindy.

Mindy finally got it—Karen was already in Natalie's corner.

And it was by backing Natalie that Karen snagged the president spot.

Natalie, in a soft voice, said, "Mindy, I really wanted to team up with you, but you're too greedy, too slick, always trying to run the show. You wanted to use everyone as your stepping stones. As long as it worked for you, your friends, your actresses and actors, they were all fair game."

Natalie's voice was barely a whisper. "You can play that game, but others can play it on you, too."

Heather had just wrapped up her handover and knocked before walking in.

Mindy stood up, looking at Heather with a mix of reluctance and bitterness. Mindy definitely didn't want to bow down. In every way, Heather was beneath her. But now, Mindy had to swallow her pride. "Ms. Ross."

Heather outranked Mindy, so Mindy had no choice.

Just a few months ago, Heather was a low-tier agent at Dynamic Entertainment Media. Now, she was the VP.

Heather gave Mindy a nod.

Heather turned to Natalie, "Natalie, Derek's downstairs with the car."

Natalie got up and said to Mindy, "If there's nothing else, I should head out."
