Chapter 268 Origins (3)
Curtis stared at Natalie, shocked. He turned to Alice and said, "Alice, hand over the pendant."
Alice clutched it tightly. "No way! Adrian gave this to me! Why should I give it to Natalie? Dad, you've always favored her, even though she's just a servant's daughter. Is she really your and Rosalie's illegitimate kid, like Mom says?"
Curtis slapped Alice across the face, leaving her stunned.
Natalie frowned, smirking slightly. Curtis actually slapped Alice.
Alice snapped out of it, crying in disbelief. "Dad, you hit me! So, it's true, isn't it? You still care about Rosalie!"
Curtis regretted his impulsive slap. "Alice, listen to yourself! Give the pendant back to Natalie!"
"No, it's mine! Adrian gave it to me!" She needed it for a party on Saturday. Without it, what would Claire think?
Curtis sighed. "Alice, the pendant really belongs to Natalie."
Alice glared at him. "It's mine! You're helping Natalie bully me! You even hit me!"
"Alice!" Avery rushed in, her eyes wide with concern. Seeing Renee at the bottom of the stairs and Lizzy trembling, she quickly ascended the steps two at a time.
Alice ran to her. "Mom, Dad and Natalie are bullying me!" She threw herself into Avery's arms.
Avery protected Alice. "Natalie, who let you come here? You're not welcome in our home!"
Natalie replied coldly, "I don't want to be here either. Just give me back the pendant."
"What pendant?" Avery asked Alice.
Alice, tear-streaked and red-eyed, said, "Mom, it's from Adrian, from our first time together. Natalie stole it to threaten me and seduce Adrian! Every woman in Vachilit wants to be Adrian's wife. Natalie broke in to steal it again. Dad didn't help me and even slapped me! Look at my face, Mom!"
Avery was shocked. "Curtis, are you crazy? Alice is our daughter!"
Curtis frowned but stayed firm. "Alice, give the pendant to Natalie, and this will be over."
Avery stood in front of Alice. "Curtis, you still care about Rosalie, don't you? You hit our daughter for her. You know how hard it was for me to have Alice. You've broken my heart."
"Avery, it's not like that," Curtis said, struggling for words.
The pendant was from Curtis's mother, given to Rosalie when they were together. He had promised it for their future child. But he couldn't let Avery know. She'd go crazy.
