Chapter 1319 Shifting Blame

Natalie glanced at the cellphone store. There were a dozen phones on the workbench along with some repair tools.

The store was small, with a little door leading to the backyard. She gave Brice a look, and Brice immediately went through the back door into the yard.

A few minutes later, Brice came out, shaking his head.

The bald man pleaded, "I'm just an honest guy making a living by buying and selling second-hand phones and repairing them. This phone was sold to me by someone else. It looked pretty new and nice, so I took it. I really don't know who the seller was."

"That's not what you said earlier," Natalie squinted. "You said someone came in to get it repaired."

"I was scared when I saw so many of you and misspoke. It's normal to forget things when you're frightened," the bald man said. "I really am just an honest guy. Please let me go. I don't know anything. I don't even have surveillance here. If I did, I would show it to you."

Adrian's gaze was cold as he uttered a few words, "Make him talk."

"Yes, sir!"

Then came a scream from the bald store owner.

A few minutes later, he couldn't hold out and confessed.

"It was Gino Bautista who brought the phones. Besides this one, there were a few others, all sold at a low price. We split the money. That's all I know."

"Who is Gino?"

"He's a thug on this street, often involved in theft and trafficking. I guess he swiped this phone from your friend, so I didn't dare to say anything. Please, let me go. I really don't know anything. I'm just a phone repairman and second-hand phone dealer."

"Where is this Gino?"

"He's probably drinking at a stall not far from here. He usually drinks there at night, but it's late now, so I'm not sure if he's still there."

The man seemed to be telling the truth. Natalie looked at his terrified expression and figured he wasn't lying. This phone belonged to Beatrix.

Natalie checked the other phones Gino had brought in; none of them were Rachel's. Rachel's phone was the latest model, and her phone case was encrusted with diamonds.

She shook her head at Adrian.

Adrian said to Callum, "Go find this Gino."

After the group left, the bald store owner clutched his hand in pain and spat in Callum's direction, "What a lousy day, running into those guys."

He immediately took out his phone and called Gino. "Hey, did you piss someone off? They came to my store looking for you. Is there something wrong with the phones you brought me? I almost got killed because of you. I'm not going drinking. Be careful, those people are looking for you. They're very capable and well-dressed. You better hide."

"What's wrong with the phones? They're just a few crappy phones, worth only a few thousand dollars. It's not like they're anything valuable. Are you trying to blame me for your own problems? I'm telling you, don't drag me into this."

"I'm warning you out of kindness, and you don't even listen. Those people just left my store and almost broke my hand. Where did you steal those phones from? Didn't I tell you not to steal from rich people? What if they track you down?"
