Chapter 573 Escape
Heather was like, "No fire. I got a bad vibe after your text. Herman's been creeping on actresses forever, but he always covers his tracks by throwing them some gigs. Some of the lesser-known ones even sleep with him for a shot at fame. It's messed up, but that's showbiz. Didn't think he'd have the guts to go after you, though."
The elevator hit the underground parking lot.
Heather glanced at Natalie, who still had her clothes on, and let out a sigh of relief.
Heather went on, "Glad you're okay. When Dylan said Herman wanted to see you, I got suspicious. After your text, I rigged a smoke device to make it look like a fire. Herman's a total wuss. The second he thought there was a fire, he bolted without even putting his pants on."
Natalie hopped into the car and rolled down the window.
Taking in the fresh air, she felt her heartbeat finally started to chill out.
The entertainment biz was a dark, murky swamp, and she had to fight to make her mark.
Natalie just wanted to act, play the roles she loved, and be free. But people kept pushing her into corners—Alice's spite, Rosalie's begging, Avery's threats, and Herman's sleaze.
The car cruised down the road.
Watching the city lights blur by, Heather said, "The smoke at Dynamic Entertainment Media should be gone by now. The device I used only lasts a few minutes. Herman's probably figured it out."
Meanwhile, Herman, in nothing but his underwear, ran to the 16th floor. A few late-night workers were there. A girl screamed and hurried back to her desk, thinking she saw a perv.
Dylan jumped in front of Herman, "Get out."
A storm of gloom clouded Herman's face.
Not only did he miss out on Natalie, but his staff saw him like this. He cursed, "That bitch tricked us!" He stormed into the elevator, jabbing the button for the 18th floor.
Dylan quickly said, "Mr. Simmons, the office is on fire!"
Herman yelled, "Screw that, we got played by that bitch Natalie! There was no fire! She tricked us!"
Out of the elevator, Herman stomped to his office. He saw the smoke devices and kicked them over. Only a few employees were working late at Dynamic Entertainment Media.
Herman barked at Dylan, "You handle it."
Ten minutes later, Dylan came back. Simmons kicked over the sofa. "Damn it, that bitch! How dare she mess with me like this? Just wait, I'll get her back!"
Dylan said, "Mr. Simmons, don't stress. Natalie’s already in our grip. As long as she's with Dynamic Entertainment Media, she can't escape. No need to lose it over a chick. I've got Calliope coming over to help you cool off."
Herman sniffed the air. Besides the smoke, there was a faint floral scent. He seemed a bit dazed, sinking into the sofa. "Natalie is a real beauty. Her skin's so smooth. But it's a shame she's with Finnian. That guy's a nobody, just riding on Mr. Abernathy's coattails."
