Renee continued, "It's not just that, Mrs. Howard. Ms. Cullen doesn't want to make a fuss, and Mr. Howard seems interested in Natalie. Even though Natalie almost caused Ms. Cullen to miscarry, Mr. Howard still defended her."
Alice looked at Renee seriously. "Renee, how can you say that?"
Renee replied, "I'm just stating the facts."
Alice said, "Mrs. Howard, please don't tell Adrian. I promised him, and if he finds out, he'll blame me."
Claire said, "Alright, I won't."
Claire told Alice to rest and left the ward, her mind racing. She thought, 'That maid, Natalie, does seem unusual. She was smart and beautiful, and Daniel likes her enough to bring her to family events. She even saved Ruben. Is all this just to get close to Adrian?'
Melissa had taken Ruben for a check-up.
A nurse was changing the dressing on Adrian's hand, blushing as she reminded him of the precautions.
Claire looked at Adrian's wound. After the nurse left, she remembered what Alice had said and walked to the bedside. "Adrian, tell me the truth. Do you really..." She paused, then asked, "Do you really like Alice?"
Adrian's expression stiffened.
"Mom, why would you ask that?"
Claire said, "Adrian, I know you. Just tell me; do you like Alice, or do you not want to marry her?"
Adrian said, "Mom, I said I would take responsibility for her."
"Just take responsibility?" Claire asked, "If it had been another girl who saved you, would you do the same?"
Adrian replied, "Of course."
Alice wasn't particularly special.
Claire sighed. "Then, what about Natalie?"
"Mom, why bring her up?" Adrian's lips pressed together, but his expression didn't change. "Mom, where did you just go?"
Claire said, "Adrian, if you liked Natalie before, I could accept that. But now, Alice is pregnant, and your marriage with Alice is already arranged. Once Alice's child is born, you two will get married. Besides, Natalie is just a maid. Her status is too low."
If Adrian really liked a maid, the Howard family would be the talk of the town.
"Mom, I won't like a woman who lies." Adrian's expression was complex. "Mom, did you hear some rumors?"
Claire said, "No, don't overthink it."
After Claire left, Adrian called Brice. "Find out where my mom just went and who she met."
Five minutes later, Brice walked in. "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard was in Ms. Cullen's ward the whole time."
Adrian's eyes narrowed. "I thought she could keep her composure."
Brice held a manila envelope. "Mr. Howard, you asked me to re-investigate Ms. Teeger. I had the YK team look into it. After multiple layers of anti-Photoshop verification, these pictures are real, and so is this video. They haven't been altered."
"Do you think a person can be deceitful and lie on one hand, and be innocent and pure on the other?" Adrian carefully examined the photos. Both the figure and the face in the photos and video confirmed it was Natalie. However, deep down, he still didn't want to believe Natalie was that kind of person. Images of Natalie's clear, bright eyes flashed in his mind.
