Chapter 454 To Meet or Not
But Bella just couldn't wrap her head around it. Why the heck did she still have to marry into the Reynolds family?
No way she believed this marriage was just for show.
Bella flashed a small smile as Cassidy walked in. "Mrs. Reynolds, I'm Bella."
Cassidy gave Bella a once-over. She'd seen her photo before. "Have a seat."
Bella got straight to the point. "Mrs. Reynolds, why'd you call me here today? Need something?"
Cassidy's smile was subtle. "I've only seen your face in pics. But now that you're joining the Reynolds crew, as your future ma-in-law, I gotta vibe with you more."
Bella could tell that even though Cassidy's tone was gentle, it lacked warmth. Instead, she felt a heavy pressure. Bella exhaled slowly. Cassidy wasn't just here for a friendly chat.
Sure enough, Cassidy kept going, "You know about Austin's situation, right? Your marriage to him was arranged by Brandon. You two haven't met, but it's not too late to start now."
Bella had no choice but to agree. "Of course."
She forced a smile, feeling awkward, not sure what else to say.
She definitely couldn't say she felt unlucky to be picked as the Reynolds' daughter-in-law.
Cassidy added, "Austin's health isn't great. He'll need a lot of care from you. You must report everything about Austin to me, got it?"
Bella was stunned. Was Cassidy asking her to spy on Austin?
Seeing Bella hesitate, Cassidy said, "Bella, if you want Swan Jewelry Company to thrive, you'd better listen and marry into the Reynolds family. Do you know who runs the Reynolds family?"
Bella thought, 'So Cassidy wants to take over the Reynolds family.' She wasn't thrilled, but she smiled and nodded. "I understand, Mrs. Reynolds."
Cassidy nodded. "Good, smart girl."
She turned to Lucy, "Take her to the third floor to see Austin."
Lucy immediately responded, "Yes." She looked at Bella. "Ms. Swan, come with me."
Bella took a deep breath, stood up, and followed Lucy to the third floor.
She didn't know if it was just her imagination, but as she climbed each step, the air seemed to get colder, making her hair stand on end. Lucy led her to the innermost room. The closer they got, the more Bella could smell that hospital-like disinfectant odor.
At the door, on a long bench, sat a middle-aged man with a scar on his face. He saw Lucy and frowned, clearly not happy to see her on the third floor.
His gaze then fell on Bella. He looked puzzled but didn't ask any questions.
Lucy walked over. "Brian, this is Bella, Austin's fiancée. It's her first time at the Reynolds family, and she wants to see Austin."
Brian said, "Xavier said no one but Nicholas is allowed on the third floor."
Lucy replied, "We should follow Mr. Xavier Reynolds' rules, but Bella is here for the first time and is about to marry Mr. Austin Reynolds. She's Austin's old lady. It's his call if he wants to see her or not. Brian, tell Mr. Austin Reynolds that Ms. Swan is in the house."
Brian hesitated, his sharp eyes scanning Bella's face, then he relented and walked into the bedroom.
Bella's heart skipped a beat.
The look in that scarred man's eyes was terrifying.
It wasn't the look a regular bodyguard should have, and that scar, running horizontally across his nose from his left cheek, was deep and old, like it was slashed by something.
About two minutes later, Brian came out. He looked at Bella with a complex expression. "Mr. Austin Reynolds said you can go in."
