Chapter 978 Becoming a Vegetative State
Alice leaned on Avery's shoulder, "Mom, I know I was immature before, but from now on, I'll listen to you."
Alice had just discovered her real identity and felt a bit guilty.
As she leaned on Avery's shoulder, Alice's mind drifted to Rosalie, lying in that bungalow, covered in blood. She wondered how Rosalie was doing and felt her anxiety grow.
Avery was talking, but Alice didn't catch a word. All she heard was Avery's sigh at the end. "...Your dad and I are drifting apart. Curtis and that secretary of his are getting too close, and I can't do anything about it."
Alice jumped in, "Mom, you need to take charge. You're his wife, and men mess up. Curtis is a big shot running a huge company; he's bound to slip up sometimes. Dad's birthday is coming up; why don't you plan something special and book a private room for us?"
Alice really wanted Curtis and Avery to patch things up. Now that she knew she wasn't their real daughter, she felt even guiltier and more scared of losing their love and her cushy lifestyle, including the thousands she got every month.
Avery seemed a bit convinced by Alice's words, but then she remembered Curtis's actions. "Curtis slapped me because of Rosalie. You want me to apologize to him now? He's probably still seeing Rosalie. I almost died giving birth to you, and he went to see her! He probably can't wait to divorce me!"
Hearing Rosalie's name made Alice's heart race. "Mom, Rosalie's not even in your league. Curtis is your husband; he won't look at a maid."
Even though Avery was mad at Curtis, he was still her husband and lover. She thought it over and decided to go along with Alice's idea, planning to be on her best behavior for Curtis's birthday.
Meanwhile, Natalie's phone rang from inside the trailer.
When she took a break and grabbed her phone, she saw it was Jerry calling.
She and Jerry didn't really talk much. They both wanted to get Rosalie out of Shoreview General Hospital. But once Natalie found out Rosalie wasn't her real mom, she cut all ties and blocked her. Jerry, though, kept calling.
Jerry had called her dozens of times.
Natalie figured it was about Rosalie.
Since Rosalie had her second kidney transplant, Natalie had cut her off completely.
She put the phone aside and, during lunch, asked Heather, "Has Rosalie contacted you?"
Heather shook her head. "No, ever since her second kidney transplant, she fired the servant I set up for her and moved out. I heard she's living in the old town now, and Jerry visits her a lot. Do you want me to check on her?"
Natalie glanced at her phone, feeling uneasy.
Heather watched Natalie closely, not knowing much about what had gone down between her and Rosalie.
