Chapter 1343 When I Die, You Can Go Back

"You said it's nice here, but what do you mean by that? If you mean lively, then yeah, the nights here are pretty happening, just like any big city. If you mean the vibe, the air is fresh, there are green trees everywhere, and you can smell the ocean. But no matter how nice it is, it's not home. I don't have any friends or family here."

"You won't be here forever," Elmer said calmly, his eyes fixed on the rolling waves in the distance. His voice was as steady as his gaze. "Once I'm gone, you can go back."

Rachel looked at Elmer, finding it hard to believe he could say such things so calmly. She remembered his illness and wanted to offer some comfort, but the words wouldn't come out. He had been sick since birth; he must have heard comforting words countless times.

Rachel cleared her throat, trying to change the subject. "Are there any local specialties here? Unique foods? I'd like to try some."

Elmer thought for a moment. "I'm not very familiar with the area myself." He looked in Rachel's direction. It was afternoon, the light at its brightest.

Through his specially designed sunglasses, he could only vaguely see Rachel's silhouette, a golden outline, but not her face. "I can ask Jace to take us around."

Jace Tovar, the family servant Elmer mentioned, was about the same age as Elmer. They had grown up together. Jace's father was Isaac's driver.

Since Elmer couldn't see, Jace would take him out, pushing his wheelchair for a stroll. But as Elmer grew older, he went out less and less. Going out meant facing people's gossip, hearing them discuss his eyes, calling him pitiful.

He didn't like those sympathetic words. For a long time, he had hidden himself in the house, unwilling to go out.

At this moment, the beach scenery was beautiful. Rachel tugged at his arm. "This place looks interesting. Drinking coffee by the sea, I want to go here."

Elmer said, "Didn't you just say you wanted to go to the library?"

There was a library nearby, the largest in the south district. Rachel had just said she was bored and wanted to read some books, but now she wanted coffee. Women are truly unpredictable. Despite this, Elmer followed her.

Rachel sat down and looked at the menu. She noticed the coffee here was different from Vachilit's, not the usual kind. It seemed to be handcrafted with various unique flavors. She ordered a pudding cheesecake and said, "I'll have a coffee, the best-selling one."

"Just one?" The server glanced at Elmer.

Rachel said, "Yes, just one. He doesn't drink."

Elmer frowned. "Who said I don't drink? Two coffees!"

The server asked if they wanted sugar or cream. After confirming, the server smiled and said, "Please wait a moment, it'll be ready soon."

Elmer 'looked' in her direction. "Boring."

Rachel counted on her fingers. "I've heard you say that several times already. Boring. Is that the only thing you say when you're upset?"

Elmer stopped looking at her and didn't say another word.
