Alice's cheeks went all rosy. "Aunt Claire, it's up to Adrian. I'll go with whatever he says."
Claire grinned. Alice looked so obedient. Sure, she had a bit of a spoiled streak, but that was normal. Alice had saved both Adrian and Claire, and Claire felt she owed her big time. If Alice hadn't pushed her away, she'd be the one in the hospital. Alice had gone through so much for her, but now Adrian was totally against the idea of marriage.

Ruben, with his sharp eyes, saw right through Adrian's thoughts. "I'm not trying to rush you, but since you agreed to this marriage, our Howard family keeps its promises. If you want out, you better have a solid reason."
Adrian nodded slightly. "Grandpa, give me some time."
Ruben said, "Marriage is a big deal. You said Alice saved you and insisted on marrying her. At first, I thought the Cullen family was just average, but you were adamant, so I agreed. Alice, though a bit spoiled, is acceptable. She was raised pampered. Just be more tolerant."
"Grandpa," Adrian said with a faint, bitter smile, "I regret it."
Ruben asked, "Can I ask why?"
Adrian didn't answer right away. Ruben, being sharp, quickly guessed, "Is it because of Natalie?"
Adrian didn't hide it and nodded. "Grandpa, I want to marry Natalie."
Ruben got serious. "Adrian, are you serious?"
Adrian said firmly, "I'm very serious."
Seeing the determination in Adrian's eyes, Ruben sighed. "Alice lost a child to save your mom. Her leg and arm were fractured and just recovered. Now you want to break off the engagement? No way. You would be the target of criticism, accused of abandoning your wife and child if you do. And The Howard Group's shares will take a hit, and even I won't be able to protect you."
Ruben admired Adrian and intended for him to inherit the Howard Group.
Among his grandsons, Adrian was the most like him.
Though Donte was good, he was still a bit behind Adrian.
Ruben understood the internal struggles within the Howard Group. If Adrian broke off the engagement with Alice, public opinion would lead several shareholders to impeach Adrian. Donte would seize the opportunity to rise to power. Both Adrian and Ruben knew this.
Ruben naturally didn't agree with Adrian's approach. "Adrian, unless you can find a suitable reason."
Adrian understood very well.
Ruben continued, "Adrian, you like Natalie, but you don't have to marry her. A man should prioritize his career. You do like Alice. She saved you and Claire and lost a child for you. You should respect Alice. A man must take responsibility for his actions. You can be with Natalie after you marry Alice."
Adrian clenched his fists. "I want to marry Natalie, to give her a legitimate status. I want Natalie to be my wife, just like you and Grandma."
