Chapter 1183 Unworthy of Love
It seemed like the truth was revealed, and Curtis was shocked into silence.
Natalie was about to hang up the phone when the voice on the other end said, "Even if I was wrong, Avery is still your mother. Even if you don't acknowledge her, our blood runs through your veins."
"When Avery gave birth to you, she went through a day and night of difficult labor. After you were born, she lost the ability to have more children. We never had any other children, so we cherished our daughter dearly and fulfilled her every wish. If it had been you in our arms back then, we would have done the same."
"Although I blame Avery for spoiling Alice, I bear the greatest responsibility for what happened to Alice and Avery. Natalie, it's my fault. The Cullen family owes you an apology."
Natalie gripped her phone tightly.
She didn't say anything more, perhaps not knowing what to say.
After hanging up, she closed her eyes.
At that moment, Violette brought over a plate of pastries and smiled, "Mrs. Claire Howard likes these pastries, so I learned how to make them. I just baked these in the kitchen. Would you like to try some, Mrs. Howard?"
Natalie stared at the plate of pastries, feeling a mix of bitterness and sorrow.
Perhaps because she needed to vent, she couldn't help but ask, "Violette, if your biological parents did something that made you hate them for life, could you convince yourself to understand them?"
Violette thought for a moment and replied, "Mrs. Howard, there's no permanent hatred between parents and children. At the core, it's all for the child's good. You could try talking to them. Maybe there's a misunderstanding. Mrs. Howard, you're still young. You'll understand when you become a mother."
Natalie shook her head, "No, it's not a misunderstanding."
She hesitated, and Violette guessed it must have been the phone call.
After that call, Natalie's mood had completely changed.
Violette sat next to Natalie and comforted her, "I have an older brother and two older sisters. Our family struggled when we were young, but my mom always tried to be fair with our daily needs."
"Believe me, no parent would harm their own child. Just like my ex-husband and me, even though we're divorced, we don't let our daughter know. She lives with my mom. I earn more money and have an easy job here, so I can see my daughter with my ex-husband every week."
"Mrs. Howard, I'm telling you this because I'm also a mother. Even though my ex-husband and I no longer love each other, we both deeply love our daughter."
Hearing this, Natalie couldn't help but smile bitterly, "Do you know why Adrian and I had that car accident?"
These thoughts had weighed on Natalie for too long, and she needed to tell someone.
Violette didn't know.
Natalie looked at Violette, "The woman who drove into us was my biological mother."
Violette's eyes widened in shock.
She couldn't believe it.
Violette would blame her ex-husband if he so much as nicked their daughter's fingernail.
How could someone try to harm their own biological daughter?
Violette immediately understood Natalie's feelings and said indignantly, "Such a person doesn't deserve to be called a mother. She's not even human!"
After saying that, she wanted to comfort Natalie but didn't know how.
Natalie smiled, not sure if she was speaking to Violette or reminding herself, "My relationship with my biological parents is filled with hatred and resentment. Perhaps we will never reconcile in this lifetime."
Violette patted her shoulder and said, "Mrs. Howard, the love between parents and children is mutual. If they are truly such malicious parents, then they don't deserve their children's love."
