Chapter 179 Natalie's Culinary Skills
Although Claire had only met "Alice" a few times, her impression of "Alice" improved at this moment.
Natalie prepared the ingredients and began making tiramisu. When she used to live in Silvervale Town, there was a pastry shop at the corner of the street.
The old lady who made the pastries knew Helen and often gave her some pastries. Natalie had grown up in the shop, watching the old lady make pastries every day, and over time, she learned how to do it herself.
Later, an earthquake destroyed much of Silvervale Town. She had no idea what had happened to the old lady.
The tiramisu was soon ready. Claire took a bite; the cheese was sweet and creamy but not greasy. Compared to her own, it was a different taste altogether. "Alice, I didn't realize you were such a good cook."
"Adrian should be in the side hall now. Let's take it to him."
In the side hall. Adrian and Donte were playing chess.
It was an invisible battle. Neither of them was willing to let the other win.
Rachel, who was watching, said, "Shouldn't there be a little wager? How about this: whoever loses has to treat me to dinner!"
Donte chuckled and said, "You're quite clever. No matter who loses, you benefit."
Rachel had been spoiled since childhood. "Then it's settled. Donte, Adrian, best two out of three. Whoever loses treats me to dinner and then goes shopping with me, paying for everything!"
Suddenly, a faint sweet aroma filled the air.
Rachel sniffed and said, "What's that smell? It's so good. Did someone make pastries again?"
Natalie walked over with the tiramisu, Claire following behind her. "Alice made some tiramisu. You all should try it."
The aroma of the tiramisu filled the air, making everyone hungry.
Natalie placed the tray on a side table and, after a moment's thought, handed a piece to Adrian.
Adrian took it, tasted it, and found it different from what he had eaten before, but it was very tasty. It was creamy and not overly sweet.
Donte took a piece. "Alice, your cooking is really good."
Rachel pouted, "Really?"
She didn't believe it. However, seeing her two brothers so satisfied, she couldn't resist taking a piece. After one bite, her eyes widened. The taste was indeed better than what the servants at home made. Who knew Alice could cook so well!
Donte glanced at Natalie. She wore a pair of brown sunglasses that covered half her face, a Chanel black and white tweed suit, and her slightly curled hair draped over her back, standing beside Adrian. He slightly moved his eyes, saying, "Alice, Adrian and I are playing chess, best two out of three. Why don't you suggest a wager?"
Natalie hesitated but, seeing Adrian looking at her, said, "Whoever loses has to drink three extra glasses of wine tonight."
Rachel snorted, "That's so boring."
Donte said, "Alright, it's been a while since I had a good drink."
Adrian said, "You know you're not as good as me and will lose."
Donte replied, "We'll see. Let me find out if your chess skills have improved recently."
Natalie stood beside Adrian, watching him make his move.
When she used to live in Silvervale Town, she would play chess with a few friends when she was bored. It was her favorite pastime as a child. Though it wasn't as serious as now, it was a good way to pass the time.
In the evenings, a group of people would gather at her grandmother's clinic door, and she would watch a few old men play chess, sometimes until late at night.
The old man next door always liked to play chess with her, and over time, Natalie's chess skills improved significantly.
She could even compete with the experienced chess players among the old men.
