Chapter 448 Is It Fun to Trick Me?
Natalie figured Adrian would grill her or give her a stern warning after that call. But nope, he just asked, "Did you enjoy your meal?"
Natalie blinked, her lashes fluttering. "It was alright."
Adrian went on, "If you're into barbecue, hit up any Howard Group restaurant. There's a card in my room. You eat for free at any of their spots"
Natalie smirked, "What if I swipe some of the Howard Group's jewelry?"
Adrian chuckled, "If you want, I can have Brice send over the latest bling from our jewelry line right now."
"Pass," Natalie said, "You know I’m not into that flashy stuff."
"You getting ready for work?" With the time difference in Verona, it should be morning. Natalie glanced at her watch. Adrian must be handling some big deal, not just calling her for a morning chat.
Natalie added, "You should get back to it. I won't keep you."
"Natalie," Adrian called her name. Hearing the steady breathing and the noisy background on her end, he realized she had tricked him. Natalie hadn't gone to any restroom. "Is it fun messing with me, Natalie?"
"It's a blast. I didn't ask you to call me." Natalie hadn't expected Adrian to catch on just as she was about to hang up.
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end.
Natalie bit her lip, thinking Adrian was pissed.
Then she heard Adrian say, "I'll be back on Wednesday."
Natalie's lashes trembled. "I'll wait for you."
After Natalie hung up, Bella let out a long sigh of relief. "How was it? Is he mad?"
Natalie shook her head. "Nope, he said he'd get you a nice gift."
Bella said, "Phew, my heart was racing when I answered. His vibe is intense, even over the phone. I don't know how you handle him every day." Bella seemed to think of something and leaned in, lowering her voice to Natalie. "Is Mr. Howard also that cold and intimidating in bed?"
Natalie's face turned beet red, and she glared at Bella. "Bella! Can you be serious for a second?"
Bella asked, "Isn't this a serious question?"
Bella kept at it. "Come on! Is he not cold, but fiery? No way, he doesn't seem like that type. I saw someone online saying Adrian's high nose bridge and long, slender hands are a sign of..."
Natalie, hearing her getting more and more outrageous, quickly said, "Alright, enough."
Bella pushed further. "What do you mean by 'alright'? How good?"
Natalie glared at her, grabbed some veggies, and dumped them on Bella's plate. "Eat your food. Talk about this with Austin in a few days."
Hearing Austin's name, Bella instantly felt dejected. She said, "I feel like I'm about to be a bird locked in a cage."
Bella continued, "Austin? That guy probably doesn't even have any sexual function left. Poor me, so young, and already facing a life without sex! Even toys are more useful than Austin."
Bella's voice wasn't too loud or too soft, just a casual complaint.
The barbecue joint was packed. It was a new spot with killer deals, naturally drawing a crowd. All seventy-plus tables were full.
Natalie and Bella were seated in a booth by the window, right next to another booth behind them.
Nicholas had just taken a sip of beer when he heard a woman's light complaint from the booth behind him. He suddenly coughed a few times, almost spitting out his beer.
A friend beside him quickly handed him a napkin. "Nicholas, what's up? Did you choke?"
Nicholas wiped his mouth. "Nah, I'm good."
