Chapter 1023 Angry
Isabella had had enough and just dialed the number.
No answer. The call got cut off right away, and then a WhatsApp message popped up.
Bronte: [Leon’s asleep. He’s exhausted. Don’t call and wake him up.]
Realizing Leon was tired from being with Bronte, Isabella was about to lose it. If she knew which hotel they were at, she’d rush over, drag Leon out of bed, and give Bronte a piece of her mind.
But she couldn’t reach them or see them now. Already short-tempered, Isabella felt her anger boiling over.
With no other option, she tugged at her short hair and angrily typed out a few words to vent.
Isabella: [You’re the most shameless mistress I’ve ever seen. Absolutely disgusting!]
A reply came back quickly.
Bronte: [Say whatever you want. I just chose love, and he doesn’t love you anymore.]
Isabella pursed her lips and shot back: [Then you two scumbags can love each other all you want. I won’t bother you anymore!]
After sending the message, Isabella turned off her phone. She didn’t want to engage in this pointless argument with Bronte anymore. It was not only useless but also driving her to the brink of madness. She knew Bronte’s goal was to make her lose her mind, and she wasn’t going to fall for it.
Even after closing WhatsApp, Isabella was still fuming, followed by a wave of sadness.
That night, between heartbreak and anger, Isabella’s chest hurt even more the next morning. It was hard as a rock and painful to the touch, and she felt dizzy and very uncomfortable.
Despite feeling awful, Isabella got dressed, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave.
At that moment, Milo woke up, and Kathy was playing with him in the living room.
As soon as Isabella walked out of the bedroom, Milo saw her and immediately started shouting, "Mommy!" while waving his little hands at her.
Seeing this, Isabella took a step forward, intending to go over.
But Kathy immediately warned her, "Don’t get too close to him. If he clings to you, it’ll be harder for both of you!"
Kathy had warned her about this yesterday that weaning a baby was the hardest part, so she should let Milo stay with her for a week to get it done.
But seeing Milo cry still broke Isabella's heart. She wanted to go over and hold Milo, but she knew that doing so might ruin all their efforts.
Seeing this, Kathy turned around with Milo and went into the guest room.
Isabella stood in the living room, listening to Milo’s cries from the guest room, her nose tingling, and then she covered her mouth and walked out the door.
Last night, Isabella had decided to take a job as a financial director at an advertising company, so today she planned to visit the company in person to show respect and handle the onboarding process. If everything went smoothly, she could start work next Monday.
Sitting on the bus, Isabella could still hear Milo’s cries echoing in her ears, lingering and not fading away.
Even though Isabella's chest hurt like hell, it was nothing compared to the pain in her heart. She was torn up from Leon's betrayal and worried sick about Milo.
Lost in thought on the bus, her phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the screen. It was an unfamiliar number, but it seemed like it had called her before. She couldn't quite place it.
Not in the mood to overthink, Isabella answered.
"Hello, who is this?" she asked.
"How did you sleep last night, Mrs. Johnson?" came a voice dripping with sarcasm.
Isabella's heart sank. It was Bronte. No wonder the number seemed familiar.
Hearing Bronte's voice, Isabella's anger flared. She had never encountered such an arrogant mistress. Weren't mistresses supposed to be despised? Why did Bronte act like she was in the right?
Isabella snapped, "Bronte, I've already filed for divorce from Leon. What more do you want?"
"I don't want anything. Just wanted to check in on your feelings," Bronte said maliciously.
"Bronte, don't think I won't do anything to you. You better apologize, or you'll regret it!" Isabella warned, gripping her phone tightly.
Bronte laughed, a sound that could drive anyone mad.
"What are you laughing at?" Isabella's hand trembled with rage, ready to explode.
"Isabella, don't be so full of yourself. Apologize to you? Keep dreaming. Sorry, I'm busy. My back is sore from last night. I need to have breakfast and check if Leon has eaten; he was exhausted." With a final triumphant laugh, Bronte hung up before Isabella could respond.
Staring at the still-lit phone screen, Isabella gripped her phone tightly.
She couldn't let Bronte mock her like this. She had to fight back, or Bronte would keep pushing her limits.
At that moment, the bus stopped. Isabella got off and hailed a cab straight to Johnson Corporation headquarters.
Half an hour later, she stood in the lobby of Johnson Corporation's office building.
After finding out which floor the CEO's office was on, Isabella headed straight to the top floor.
Standing not far from the CEO's office, Isabella frowned slightly. She thought, 'I should deal with Bronte first; Leon can wait.'
She turned and started looking for the executives' offices. Finally, near the end of the hallway, she found an office with a "Vice President" sign.
A young and beautiful secretary sat at the door. Isabella smiled and asked, "Is Ms. Langley in this office?"
"Yes, do you have an appointment?" the pretty secretary asked, looking up.
Without answering, Isabella walked straight to Bronte's office and pushed the door open.
The secretary was shocked and hurried to stop her, but it was too late! "Miss, you can't go in there!"
