Chapter 404 I Don't Care About Status

Susan and Catherine were totally floored when they heard that. They shot each other looks, not believing what James said.

"I swear on my honor; it's true!" James said, raising his hand like he was in court or something.

Susan and Catherine didn't really buy into James's whole "honor" thing, but given the situation, they couldn't just brush it off.

Catherine couldn't keep her cool anymore. She jumped up and said, "Dorothy went to face them with Amanda all by herself. Isn't she at a huge disadvantage?"

Susan saw the desperation in Catherine's eyes and knew she wanted her to tag along.

Even though Susan knew Dorothy probably wouldn't appreciate her showing up—thinking she was just there for the drama—she couldn't ignore Catherine's worry. Plus, Amanda was just a little kid, barely over two.

Worried Amanda might get hurt, Susan nodded and said, "Mom, I'll go with you."

"Alright," Catherine said, grabbing Susan's hand, looking relieved.

With James leading the way, they headed to the training school where Henry worked.

The school was on the sixth floor, taking up three whole floors of the building.

As soon as they stepped out of the elevator, they were hit with a bunch of noise, including a kid crying.

"That must be Amanda," Catherine said, her heart breaking. Susan felt the anxiety too.

"Move it, James!" Catherine snapped, surprising everyone with her sudden outburst. She was usually so calm.

James, not wanting to push his luck, quickly led the way.

When they got to the front desk, there was a crowd gathered around.

James pushed through, with Susan and Catherine right behind him. They saw Dorothy holding a sobbing Amanda, yelling at a young girl in a red uniform.

"Look at this slut, Hailey Jordan! She's young but already a pro at wrecking homes, stealing husbands, and leaving kids without dads. She's heartless! Watch out for her, folks. She is a professional home-wrecker, relying on sleeping with men to buy clothes and cosmetics. She is filthy and disgraceful, possibly carrying diseases."

Susan's face turned red. Dorothy, usually so composed, was losing it. Even if this girl had something going on with Henry, Dorothy was acting like a madwoman.

The crowd started whispering and pointing at the girl behind the desk.

Hailey, the girl in red, looked furious and stepped up to Dorothy, ready to throw down.

"Yeah, I slept with your man. So what? Even if I have a disease, so what? Maybe I gave it to him, but did he give it to you? Your man doesn't even touch you. You couldn't get infected even if you wanted to!" Hailey laughed like a maniac.

Everyone was floored by Hailey's words!

No one saw that coming. Most girls would either avoid the drama or keep their mouths shut, but Hailey was ready to throw down with Dorothy.

"You..." Dorothy was so mad she looked like she might pass out.

She pointed at Hailey for what felt like forever before finally spitting out, "You shameless hussy!"

Hailey shot back, "No matter how shameless I am, I'm not as bad as you. Henry doesn't even care about you. You tried to avoid a divorce by dragging your kid into a river. Are you even a mother? Did you think about your kid's life? And now, you drag her here to confront me. Look at her; she's been crying so much her voice is gone. Did you think about how scared she must be?"

Dorothy was left speechless.

Susan, watching all this, suddenly felt a weird sort of respect for Hailey.

She took a closer look at Hailey. She wasn't tall, her skin wasn't super fair, and she was pretty slim. She had clear eyes and a distinctive nose, looking more fresh-faced than glamorous, especially with her long black ponytail.

At this moment, Hailey grabbed a bottle of water, opened it, and handed it to the still-crying Amanda in Dorothy's arms, saying gently, "Hey, little one, have some water. Your voice is all hoarse from crying."

Amanda, too young to get what was going on, stared at Hailey and reached for the water.

But Dorothy smacked the bottle out of Hailey's hand!

Dorothy exploded, pointing at Hailey, "Stop pretending to be nice. Who knows if you put something in that water to poison my daughter?"

Hailey's face turned red with anger. "Don't slander me. Everyone saw me just open that bottle."

"You're not that kind. You wish my daughter were dead so Henry would leave me, and you could take my place!" Dorothy ranted.

Hailey looked like she was about to argue but then just smiled and said, "Dorothy, let me tell you; I don't hide anything. I'm with Henry now, so what? Even if you don't divorce, I don't care. I love him and don't care about status. You can keep your status till the end of your life!"

Dorothy had met her match. Seeing she couldn't win the argument, she threatened, "You have no shame! Fine! I'll go to your boss and see how you keep your job!"

Hailey didn't even flinch. She took off her uniform and threw it on the front desk, saying, "Great, I didn't want to work here anyway. Go ahead!"

Dorothy was livid. She turned to James, handed Amanda to him, and then charged at Hailey. "You slut, I'm gonna kill you!"
