Chapter 279 True Feelings Revealed in Adversity
Susan and Isabella were hurt, but luckily, it wasn't too bad.
Isabella's family knew the situation and immediately grabbed Eugene and Patricia, giving them a harsh scolding.
Feeling embarrassed, Eugene and Patricia ditched their mourning clothes and left in a huff.
The family then comforted Isabella for a bit before leaving. Worried Eugene and Patricia might come back, Susan and Isabella quickly took off too.
On the bus ride home, Isabella cried the whole time.
"Susan, can you believe people like Eugene and Patricia actually exist? It's just unbelievable," Isabella said.
"Eugene's behavior towards Michelle will definitely come back to haunt him. And Patricia? She won't have a happy ending either," Susan said, touching the scratches Patricia left on her face.
"They can do whatever they want. I'm done with them," Isabella said, wiping her nose with a tissue.
Susan patted Isabella's shoulder. She knew Isabella's tears were for more than just the effort and money spent on Michelle's funeral; it was also about losing family ties. From now on, Isabella and Eugene would be strangers.
Susan understood this well, having gone through something similar with James and Dorothy. Only she knew the sadness in her heart, so she deeply understood Isabella's feelings.
Half an hour later, Isabella finally calmed down.
"Sorry for dragging you into our family mess," Isabella said, embarrassed.
Susan rolled her eyes. "Haven't you seen enough of my family's drama?"
"Yeah, we're in the same boat. Let's not poke fun at each other," Isabella replied, her tone finally returning to its usual self.
Isabella was always carefree, and Susan liked her for that.
"By the way, what are your plans now?" Isabella asked.
Susan frowned. "First, I'm moving out of George's place. I've been looking for a new spot but haven't found one yet."
"Why did you suddenly decide not to marry George? What happened?" Isabella asked, confused.
Susan didn't want to tarnish George's reputation, so she kept the details to herself. After a moment, she said, "I realized I don't love George. Being with him was just to repay a debt. I don't want that kind of marriage, and it's not fair to him. He deserves someone who loves him, and I just don't."
Isabella frowned. "You're so willful. If I were you, I'd seize the opportunity, even if I didn't love him. At least with him, I wouldn't have to count every penny and battle it out with twenty-somethings for jobs!"
"People always crave what they lack. Right now, you yearn for wealth, but once you possess it, you'll long for love," Susan said, amused by Isabella's sigh.
Isabella retorted, "I've been afraid of hardship all my life. Right now, I just want money."
"You can achieve that on your own," Susan said, a theory she had recently embraced.
In the past, she relied on Seb and George, but in the end, she couldn't depend on anyone. When there was no one to lean on, life got tough. So, from now on, Susan decided to rely on herself to ensure a good life for Spring and herself. Of course, now she also had Hayden.
Isabella then suggested, "Susan, stop looking for a place. Come live with me and bring Spring. My mom used to live with me, so there wasn't enough space, but now that she's gone, we can manage. Our financial situation isn't great, but we can make do. We can get a sofa bed for the living room, and it'll be fine."
Susan looked into Isabella's sincere eyes.
She knew Isabella wasn't just saying it. Whenever she was in a tough spot, Isabella helped her. And she had helped Isabella during her hardest times too. Over the years, they had been through thick and thin together, even more so than her own family.
Susan thought for a moment. She was really at the end of her rope. She didn't have much money, just a bunch of unsold goods, and she had Spring to take care of. After moving out of George's house, she couldn't afford Serenity. She would have to run her online store from home while taking care of Spring. At this moment, Susan really had no other options.
Susan then looked at Isabella and said, "Isabella, you know I run an online store. The house is always full of goods, and Spring is only one year old, so it'll be noisy. Plus, I have Hayden, who will come over from time to time and stay with us. You'll need a lot of patience."
Seeing Susan's troubled expression, Isabella waved her hand and said, "I know your situation. Do whatever you need to. But let's agree on this: I'll take the room with the sliding door, and you and Spring can sleep on the sofa bed. Since you're home more often, you can do more housework!"
Hearing this, Susan's face lit up with joy. She smiled and held Isabella's hand, saying, "Isabella, do you know how big how big favor I owe you? I was really at my wit's end."
"You still have me. Besides, you're my creditor. I still owe you half a year's rent plus five thousand dollars in cash. But let me be clear, I can't pay you back right now. I spent all my money on my mom. I can only offer you a place to stay," Isabella said with a cheeky smile.
"I'm already very grateful for that. As for the money, you can pay me back anytime," Susan said with a smile.
That day, after Susan returned, she wanted to tell George that she was moving out. After all, she had lived in his house for so long, she needed to inform him.
However, with Serenity's information, Susan found out that George hadn't been home for the past few days. Susan couldn't help but frown. She thought, 'Is George deliberately avoiding me? It seems George doesn't want to see me anymore.'
After hesitating for a long time, Susan finally picked up the phone and dialed George's number.
The phone rang for more than ten seconds before George finally answered.
"Hello?" After a second's pause, George's voice came from the other end.
