Chapter 1368 She Will Not Forgive Me Anymore
Daryl's brow furrowed as he asked, "Whose paternity test is this?"
His usually steady voice wavered.
"It's between me and Thaddeus," Elijah replied, calm as ever.
Daryl hesitated, then reached out to take the paper from Elijah's hand. It felt like it weighed a ton. He almost didn't want to look.
He unfolded the paper, his expression growing more complicated as he read the results.
Elijah broke the silence, "Even if we were biological brothers, our DNA would still have differences. A paternity test can determine whose son Thaddeus is. I know you haven't done this because you're scared of a result you can't handle. If you did, you and Cecilia might never reconcile. So, I did it myself. I did a paternity test with Thaddeus. The result shows our DNA is 76% similar, which means we're closely related but not father and son."
Daryl held the paper, speechless, his eyes misting over.
After a while, he turned and walked to the table, fumbling for a cigarette. He tried to light it three times but failed each time.
Elijah stepped forward, took the lighter from Daryl's hand, and lit the cigarette for him.
Daryl took a few deep drags. His face was mostly expressionless, but there was a hint of relief in his eyes.
Elijah then pulled a medical record from his pocket and placed it on the table in front of Daryl. "This is Cecilia's medical record from when she gave birth to Thaddeus. Take a look."
"What are you getting at?" Daryl's emotions were still all over the place, making it hard for him to think straight.
Elijah explained, "The medical record details Cecilia's pregnancy, the due date, and the complications she faced, including a breech birth and a difficult delivery. Although giving birth nearly a month past the due date is rare, it does happen. Cecilia's case was special, and the doctors at the city hospital even held a consultation."
Daryl quickly scanned the medical record, finding that everything matched what Elijah had said.
Seeing Daryl's incredulous expression, Elijah continued, "You could have easily had Douglas look into this, but you didn't because you were afraid of discovering a truth you couldn't handle. You're stubborn and pitiful, not trusting your partner or yourself, which is why you and Cecilia ended up like this."
Hearing this, Daryl slumped into his chair.
Elijah then pulled out a few photos from his pocket and placed them in front of Daryl.
"What are these?" Daryl asked, staring at Elijah in shock. The surprises and shocks from Elijah were becoming too much for him to handle.
"Just take a look," Elijah said, not offering any further explanation.
Daryl glanced at Elijah before picking up the photos. As he looked at them, he noticed they were pictures of Elijah and Cecilia together. Upon closer inspection, he realized they were the same photos taken in the greenhouse.
"Why are you showing me these?" Daryl asked, confused.
"Where's your usual sharpness? Look at these photos carefully," Elijah urged.
Daryl looked closely at the photos again. He noticed a difference. The photos Azalea had shown him years ago depicted Elijah and Cecilia in intimate poses, but these photos showed them maintaining a respectful distance.
"Why are these photos different from the ones I saw back then?" Daryl quickly identified the discrepancy.
Elijah explained, "These photos were recently found. The servant took many pictures of me and Cecilia talking in the greenhouse, but only the ones that could cause a scandal were used. The rest were stored away."
Daryl frowned at the photos. "These were taken from different angles, so they don't show any intimate behavior."
Elijah smiled. "Your intelligence is finally coming back."
"How dare Skylar go to such lengths!" Daryl said, crushing his cigarette in the ashtray.
"Skylar is now a recluse. She's lost her standing in Maple Valley's high society, which is a heavy blow to her and the Tate family. But after causing so much trouble for you and Cecilia, she deserves it," Elijah said.
Daryl rubbed his face with his hands, not saying anything.
Seeing this, Elijah pressed on, "What are you going to do now?"
Daryl didn't answer for a long time.
"I think you need to take some time to think," Elijah said, knowing his brother needed time to process everything.
Elijah turned to leave.
"Elijah!" Daryl called out.
Elijah stopped.
"I'm sorry," Daryl apologized.
Elijah sighed in relief and turned back. "We're brothers. There's no lasting grudge between us. But you owe Cecilia an apology. She's been through so much."
Daryl pulled out another cigarette and took a deep drag. "Do you think she'll accept my apology?"
"How will you know if you don't try?" Elijah countered.
Daryl took another drag, looking troubled. "I don't think she'll forgive me."
