Chapter 864 Gentleman

Hugo's blue eyes were sharp and bright. He was tall, slim, and always looked like he just stepped out of a fashion magazine. He had this charm and grace when he talked, especially with women—a real gentleman.

Susan had only seen guys like Hugo on TV, but today, he was her guide.

When Susan asked her question, Hugo pulled out a note from his pocket and handed it to her with a smile.

Susan took the note, a bit suspicious, and looked down. The handwriting was neat and tidy.

The note had an itinerary that covered almost all the famous spots in Velvet City.

It was packed for three full days, making Susan gasp in surprise.

'Is Hugo being overly enthusiastic? Does he mean to hang out with me for three days?' Before she could think more, Hugo made a gentlemanly gesture. "You haven't had breakfast yet, right? There's a great place nearby. Let me take you there."

"Sure." Susan couldn't say no to such enthusiasm.

On the first day, Hugo took Susan to visit a palace.

Susan was blown away by the palace's luxury and charm. Hugo was like a pro tour guide, meticulously describing every aspect of the palace's design and history.

From the first day, Susan learned that Hugo's grandfather was a duke, and his brother had inherited the title. Even though Hugo didn't have a title, he was still a real noble.

On the second and third days, Hugo showed Susan almost all of Velvet City, opening her eyes to so much.

The second day was actually Seb and Ellie's wedding day. Susan thought it would be tough, but with Hugo's company and all the sightseeing, she got through it easily.

Maybe because she was so tired during the day, she fell asleep easily at night and didn't think much about Seb.

Susan was really grateful to Hugo. Without him, she didn't know how she would have gotten through these tough days.

Hugo seemed like a godsend to cheer her up, and Susan found it pretty magical.

If Hugo weren't Seb's friend, it would be even better. She wouldn't mind being friends with him.

However, Hugo seemed to know something. During the three days they spent together, he never mentioned Seb, and naturally, Susan didn't bring him up either.

On the third night, Susan insisted on treating Hugo to dinner to thank him for his hospitality over the past few days.

Susan picked a fancy Zandorian restaurant to show her sincerity.

After the dishes were served, Susan raised her glass first, smiling at Hugo. "Hugo, thanks for everything these past few days. Cheers!"

"You're welcome." Hugo raised his glass, clinking it with Susan's.

After the crisp sound of glasses clinking together, Hugo and Susan each took a big sip of red wine.

"So, what do you think of Velvet City?" Hugo asked while cutting his steak.

Susan tilted her head, thought for a moment, and smiled. "It's rich in history and culture. I've learned a lot. But honestly, the coolest part has been getting to see a real Zandorian noble up close!"

Hugo chuckled at that.

"So, what do you think of me?" he asked.

Susan looked up at the ceiling, thinking. "Handsome, elegant, courteous, very gentlemanly. You carry yourself differently from us regular folks."

Hugo hesitated for a moment before saying, "I was taught to be meticulous and serious from a young age, which isn't ideal for a child. My childhood wasn't carefree. I don't want my kids to grow up as nobles. I want them to have a happy, carefree childhood."

Susan saw a trace of loneliness and helplessness in Hugo's eyes.

She couldn't fully grasp his experience, but she got that being a noble brought both honor and a lot of restrictions.

"At least you're free now, able to travel the world!" Susan said with a smile, trying to lighten the mood.

Susan had heard from Seb that Hugo, as a noble, got an annual allowance from the Royal Family. He also had some properties and was a painter, traveling the world and even holding solo exhibitions, which reportedly sold well.

Hugo was a wealthy, carefree guy. Despite his strict noble upbringing, his current life seemed pretty comfortable.

Susan envied Hugo for being able to do what he loved.

But she wondered why, in his thirties, he was still single.

"Yeah, my brother is pretty envious of me now. He inherited my father's title and has to work for the Royal Family, which is his duty. But I get to travel around. Sometimes he jokes about giving me the title, but I'm not that foolish to accept it!" Hugo laughed.

Susan smiled at that.

She felt that Hugo was quite carefree, and her impression of him had been improving over the past few days.

Later, Hugo asked, "You've almost seen all of Velvet City. Where do you plan to go next?"

Susan smiled and replied, "I want to visit Rainbow City."

Hugo then smiled. "I have a castle in the suburbs of Rainbow City. I'd love to have you visit sometime."

Susan was stunned.

She thought that although Hugo was a noble, he hadn't inherited a title. She didn't expect that he had something as symbolic of power and wealth as a castle.

Hugo smiled and said, "My grandfather left behind more than a dozen castles. I have two under my name, and one happens to be near Rainbow City. Of course, it's not large and can't compare to the castle my brother inherited."
