Chapter 137 Burning with Rage
Just then, the emergency room door swung open, and a doctor in a white coat stepped out.
"Who's here for Cynthia?"
"I'm her friend, doctor. How is she?" Seb asked, stepping forward.
The doctor glanced at Seb. "We got to her in time, so she's stable but needs to be hospitalized. Where are her family members? We need some documents signed and the hospital fees paid. She's already in a ward. You should let her family know."
Seb looked at Susan, then said, "She doesn't have any family here. I can handle the fees and sign the documents for her."
"Alright." The doctor handed the documents to Seb, while Leon, catching Seb's look, went to pay the fees.
After Seb signed the papers, the doctor took them and left.
Seb turned to Susan, looking worried. "I'm sorry, she doesn't have any family around. I have to take care of her."
Susan felt uneasy. Cynthia was Seb's ex-girlfriend, so why did he need to take care of her?
But then she thought about how Cynthia was alone, and how Seb and Cynthia had grown up together. If she were in the same situation, she probably couldn't just ignore it either.
Despite her discomfort, Susan nodded. "I understand."
"It's late. Should I take you home first?" Seb asked.
"No, you should go see Cynthia. I'll head home myself," Susan replied.
Seb looked anxious. "Be careful on your way home. I'll go check on her."
"Okay," Susan nodded.
Seb quickly headed towards the inpatient department.
Watching him leave, Susan felt down. She stood there until he was out of sight, then slowly walked towards the emergency building exit.
Her emotions were all over the place. Why was she being so generous, letting Seb take care of Cynthia? Seb didn't seem to care about her at all. She should've been more assertive and not let him go.
What if Seb rekindled his feelings for Cynthia? Even if he didn't, Cynthia's feelings for him were obvious. Who knew what she might do to win him back?
Just as she stepped out of the emergency building, she saw Leon hurrying over.
"Ms. Wilson, the hospital needs Miss Phillips' ID to complete the procedures. Here are the payment receipts I just got for her. Could you take them to the ward? A nurse will come to collect them later." Leon handed her a stack of receipts.
Then, Leon turned and left. It took Susan a moment to process. Although she didn't want to see Cynthia again, she couldn't refuse this favor.
"Which ward?" Susan shouted after Leon.
Luckily, Leon hadn't gone far. He turned and shouted back, "8th floor, room 32 in the inpatient department!"
"Got it," Susan nodded.
Holding the receipts, Susan made her way to room 32.
The ward door was slightly ajar. Just as Susan was about to knock, she heard voices inside and paused.
"Seb, don't blame me. I didn't mean to go find Susan," Cynthia said, her voice trembling.
"Let's not talk about that now. Just focus on getting better," Seb replied gently.
"Don't blame Susan either. She was just emotional, which is why we had a conflict. She didn't mean to push me. I just fell and got upset, which triggered my attack," Cynthia cried.
Outside, Susan frowned. 'Cynthia's twisting the truth,' she thought. 'She's making it sound like I hit her and caused her attack.'
Susan had felt sorry for Cynthia, given her medicine, and called an ambulance. Cynthia was ungrateful. Susan had saved her life, hadn't she?
She decided to listen a bit longer to see what Seb would say.
"Didn't I make things clear between us? Why did you go to see Susan?" Seb asked.
"I can't live without you, Seb. Can't we start over?" Cynthia pleaded.
"We're over. I don't want to go through this again. Focus on getting better. I've already called Kathy to come take care of you," Seb said patiently.
Cynthia suddenly grabbed Seb's hand, pleading, "Seb, don't leave me. I'm so scared!"
"Cynthia, be strong. I've talked to the doctors at Averlake. They said your condition can be managed. Once you're better, I'll send you there for further treatment," Seb encouraged.
"No! I don't want to go to Averlake. I don't want to leave you." Cynthia got out of bed barefoot and hugged Seb tightly.
"Cynthia!" Seb frowned, trying to push her away but hesitating.
With his back to the door, Susan couldn't see Seb's expression or his hands trying to push Cynthia away. She only saw Cynthia hugging him, and he didn't push her away.
Susan clenched the payment receipts, her heart aching.
A moment later, she pushed the door open and knocked with her finger.
Seb and Cynthia looked up, surprised to see Susan.
Seb quickly pushed Cynthia away, and she, a bit weak, sat back on the bed.
"Seems like I came at a bad time," Susan said, stepping in with a sneer.
Seb walked up to Susan, speaking in a low voice, "Nonsense!"
"Is it nonsense?" Susan looked up at Seb's uneasy eyes, her gaze sharp.
Seb wanted to explain, but Susan shoved the payment receipts into his hand.
"Leon asked me to give these to you. I'm leaving!"
She glanced at Cynthia, noticing the provocative look in her eyes, which made her even angrier. She turned and walked out of the ward, not wanting to stay a second longer.
"Susan!" Seb called, immediately chasing after her.
Sitting on the hospital bed, Cynthia watched Seb chase after Susan, her eyes filled with malice. She hated Susan deeply.
"Susan, I won't let you have it easy!" Cynthia clenched her fists, her nails digging into her flesh.
