Chapter 716 Can't Handle It
Looking at Seb's puzzled expression, Susan only said one word, "Love!"
Hearing this, Seb stared at Susan with doubt for a long moment before saying, "Can love really exist between people who have nothing in common?"
Susan couldn't help but smile and said, "Do you think we have anything in common?"
"Huh?" Susan's question left Seb speechless.
Seeing Seb's expression, Susan curled her lips and said, "Think about it. Different backgrounds, different experiences, different careers, different everything. A world of difference between us. And yet, we were married twice, have two beautiful children together, and even though we're divorced now..."
"That's different!" Seb immediately denied.
"How is it different? You come from a prestigious family, and I'm just an ordinary person who grew up in a single-parent household." At this point, Susan's eyes showed a hint of inferiority.
At this moment, Seb reached out and held Susan's hand, smiling. "I'm also from a single-parent family now, just like you. And how are our careers so different? We both started at the same company."
Hearing this, Susan laughed, then withdrew her hand and playfully slapped his hand. "How is that the same? You were the CEO, and I was just an employee!"
"But we still have the same work experience," Seb comforted Susan.
"Alright, alright, you win," Susan conceded with a smile. "You're a catch, Mr. Anderson. Only the best for you."
At this moment, Seb suddenly laughed. "I knew you were just buttering me up tonight."
Susan smiled slightly, then casually glanced up and suddenly saw a couple walking in not far away, followed by two assistant-like attendants.
The couple was very affectionate, but their ages and appearances were extremely mismatched.
The man was in his fifties, bald, while the woman was in her twenties, slender and fashionable, making it a typical case of a beautiful woman clinging to a rich man.
Seeing the beautiful woman holding the man's arm, Susan couldn't help but be stunned!
What a coincidence! The woman in the purple low-cut dress with fur on her shoulders was Esme. She had run into her here last time, and now she was seeing her again.
Just as Susan was about to look away, Esme also saw her.
Esme's expression was just as surprised as Susan's.
The next moment, Esme said something to the bald middle-aged man, who then entered a private room with the two assistants, while Esme walked charmingly towards Susan and Seb's table.
Seeing Esme approaching, Seb frowned slightly, clearly feeling a bit uneasy.
Seeing Seb's expression, Susan couldn't help but laugh softly. "Why are you nervous?"
"I'm not nervous," Seb replied in a low voice.
"I won't mind, don't worry," Susan said deliberately.
However, Seb reached up to adjust his tie.
The next moment, Esme was already at their table.
"Mr. Anderson, Ms. Wilson, what a coincidence!" Esme smiled at Seb, but her eyes finally rested on Susan. It was clear that Esme's interest was no longer in Seb.
"Yes, indeed," Susan smiled.
Then, Esme suddenly placed her hand on Susan's shoulder and smiled, saying, "Ms. Wilson, let's talk over there."
After saying this, Esme glanced at Seb and then turned to walk towards a carved screen, clearly waiting for Susan.
At this moment, Susan smiled at Seb. "I'll be right back."
"What do you have to talk about with her?" Seb suddenly grabbed Susan's hand, frowning.
Seeing his anxious look, Susan calmly asked, "What are you afraid of? Are you afraid Esme will tell me some scandalous stories about you two?"
"What scandalous stories do I have with her?" Seb scoffed, curling his lips in disdain.
Susan raised an eyebrow and smiled, then got up and walked towards the carved screen.
Susan understood why Seb didn't want her to interact with Esme. No one would believe that despite their close relationship, Seb and Esme never slept together.
Susan knew Seb was afraid she would misunderstand. Thinking about how uneasy he looked just now, she wanted to laugh.
But who told him to come up with such a nasty way to upset her back then? Today, she would make him anxious. She planned to talk with Esme for a while longer.
Susan walked behind the carved screen and smiled at Esme, asking, "Ms. Davis, do you also love the Mexican food here?"
"Yes, I love it here. I come almost every week," Esme said with a charming smile.
After some small talk, Esme suddenly grabbed Susan's wrist, glanced at Seb, and said, "Why are you back with him? Is it the children? Or the money?"
Hearing this, Susan held back her laughter and said, "I have no choice."
"Yes, you have two kids with him. You have to think about them. Women shouldn't have kids; otherwise, they end up living for their children," Esme said, shaking her head.
Although Esme was pretentious, she was straightforward and very talkative.
The next moment, Esme glanced at Seb through the carved screen and said regretfully, "He has money, looks, and ability, but he's just not useful. What a pity!"
Hearing this, Susan couldn't help but laugh and quickly lowered her head to avoid laughing out loud. She thought, 'Esme has no idea how useful he is; sometimes, I couldn't handle it.'
But Susan was also relieved. After all, Esme was attractive to women, let alone men. Seb didn't fall for her, nor for those young models and actresses in their twenties with great bodies and pure looks. Even women liked them, let alone men.
Seeing Susan lower her head, Esme thought she was feeling sad.
The next moment, she quickly held Susan's hand and comforted her, "I know you're suffering, but for the kids, just make do! At least he has money and power; you won't lose out by being with him."
