Chapter 1198 No Feelings

"Luminara culture is vast and profound. I still have many years of learning ahead, but I'm glad that you'll be there to teach me in the future. I think if we spend a lot of time together, my Luminara language skills will improve quickly," Barry said with a smile.

Cecilia lowered her head and thought for a moment. The idea of spending so much time with Barry made her feel a bit scared.

Barry was very easygoing and considerate, so she wasn't afraid of him treating her badly. Instead, she was afraid of adapting to a life with someone else.

A woman in love should long to be with the person she loved, to be together day and night, right? Why didn't she have that urgent desire?

Cecilia glanced around Barry's house, feeling it was very unfamiliar. Moreover, being alone with a man could easily lead to impulsive actions, especially with the influence of alcohol. However, she wasn't ready for anything to happen with Barry.

So, Cecilia refused, "I'm a bit tired today and want to rest early. Let's save your treasured wine for another day."

Barry noticed Cecilia's hesitation and smiled, "Alright, we'll taste it another day then."

"Okay." Cecilia smiled lightly. She knew Barry would never force her, which made her feel comfortable, but also like something was missing.

Cecilia thought of Daryl. He was completely different from Barry. When he was happy, he would go along with her, but when he was in a bad mood, he could be very domineering. She found herself missing that side of him.

After dinner, Cecilia stood in the kitchen washing dishes while Barry cleaned up the leftovers.

It was a warm scene, but it lacked the sweetness that lovers should have.

After everything was tidied up, Cecilia smiled and said, "Barry, it's getting late. I should head home."

Barry stepped forward and held Cecilia's shoulders, saying disappointedly, "You're not staying to chat with me for a bit?"

Cecilia smiled. "Chat about what?"

"Anything, as long as you're by my side, I'm satisfied." With that, Barry pulled Cecilia into his arms.

With her face against Barry's chest, Cecilia felt very secure and closed her eyes.

Not long after, Cecilia suddenly felt something warm touch her lips. She opened her eyes in surprise to see Barry gently kissing her lips.

Startled, Cecilia immediately pushed Barry away. "No!"

Barry stumbled back a step, looking at Cecilia with questioning eyes.

Seeing Barry's confused expression, Cecilia immediately realized she had overreacted.

They were in a relationship, and they had been dating for almost a month. It was reasonable for Barry to want to kiss her or even ask for more intimate actions.

However, she didn't know why, although her heart had accepted Barry, her body hadn't.

During this time, Barry had only held Cecilia's hand, and the most intimate they had been was a hug.

Cecilia wanted to apologize, but Barry spoke first, "I'm sorry, Cecilia. Please don't be mad. I just couldn't help wanting to get closer to you, to kiss you."

Cecilia felt a wave of guilt. Why had she pushed Barry away? His eyes, filled with hurt and guilt, made her very uneasy.

"I'm just not used to it. I'm sorry, Barry, I..." her eyes filled with apology as she looked at him.

Barry gently held Cecilia's shoulders and comforted her, "Don't say that. I understand. You need time to get used to me. Don't worry, I'll wait. I promise I won't be so forward again."

Looking at the gentle and understanding Barry, Cecilia felt extremely conflicted and blamed herself even more. She shouldn't have pushed him away; she must have hurt his feelings.

That night, Barry took Cecilia home. Lying in bed, Cecilia suddenly felt exhausted from being with Barry.

Half a month later, Cecilia was looking at some drafts when Marcella suddenly came in.

"Cecilia, big news," Marcella said quietly, holding a newspaper.

Cecilia asked in confusion, "What happened?"

"Come with me." Marcella then turned and went to the break room.

After Cecilia entered the break room, Marcella closed the door.

"Why so mysterious?" Cecilia frowned.

"See for yourself." Marcella handed the newspaper to Cecilia.

Cecilia took the newspaper and looked down, stunned.

"Your ex-boyfriend Daryl was in a car accident yesterday," Marcella said, pointing to a spot in the newspaper.

Seeing the headline, Cecilia's heart tightened, and she found it hard to breathe.

Her hand holding the newspaper stiffened, and she carefully read the content below.

The newspaper only reported that Daryl, the president of Fields Group, had a car accident early this morning and was taken to the hospital. It didn't provide any details about his condition.

Cecilia anxiously asked Marcella, "Why doesn't it say how badly he's hurt?"

"This is this morning's paper. They probably haven't had time to report it, or the Fields family hasn't released any information," Marcella replied.

Cecilia leaned against the wall, her heart filled with worry for Daryl, praying that he wouldn't be in any life-threatening danger.

Seeing Cecilia's anxious and worried expression, Marcella said, "I think you still have feelings for him, don't you?"

Cecilia immediately hid her worry and panic, saying, "How could I? We ended things a long time ago. But he did help me before, and I don't want him to die."

"You still care about him. Many women would wish their ex-boyfriends dead," Marcella said.

Cecilia realized she never had such thoughts. She only hoped Daryl would be okay.

"Hey, how are things with Barry?" Marcella asked quietly.

"Alright," Cecilia replied.

Marcella scrutinized Cecilia and teased, "Strange, I don't see the sweetness of a woman in love on your face."

Cecilia pushed Marcella. "It's not my first time in a relationship. How could I be that invested?"

"I've been in several relationships, and every time I'm deeply invested, always feel that flutter. That's the magic of love. Otherwise, why would so many people long for it?" Marcella said, placing her hands over her heart

Cecilia frowned.

Love could make one's heart race, but why hadn't she felt that way after all that time with Barry?
