Chapter 838 A Last Resort
Seeing Susan's freaked-out face, Ellie lifted her chin and grinned like she just won the lottery. "The wedding announcement's coming soon. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but you can't change it. So stop wasting your time. The more you cling to him, the more Seb's gonna get annoyed with you!"
Susan went pale, her legs feeling like jelly. If she wasn't trying to keep it together, she would've probably hit the ground.
Ellie, seeing she hit the mark, smirked and said, "Seb can't go a minute without me. I gotta get back to him."
With that, Ellie shot Susan a disdainful look and walked off.
After Ellie left, Susan found a bench and plopped down. Even though it was the middle of summer, she was shaking all over.
Susan knew if Seb and Ellie tied the knot, it'd be game over. Even if Seb remembered her later, like Ellie said, they'd already have a new family, maybe even kids. By then, it'd be too late. Even if Seb loved her, what difference would it make? He'd be stuck in a tough spot.
She had to make Seb remember her before the wedding. This was her last shot.
Susan was out of options. Even though she didn't want to drag Leon into this again, she had no choice but to call him.
Fifteen minutes later, Leon showed up, out of breath.
"What's so urgent? You called me out in such a rush," Leon asked, looking at the pale Susan on the bench.
Seeing Leon, Susan grabbed his arm and urgently asked, "Leon, is Seb really marrying Ellie next month?"
Leon frowned and didn't answer for a long time.
Seeing his reaction, Susan knew the answer. She slowly let go of his arm, her eyes filled with sorrow and confusion.
Seeing her sadness, Leon said helplessly, "I'm sorry, I couldn't convince Mr. Anderson."
"I get it, you did your best. Leon, please keep helping me. I have to make Seb remember me before he marries Ellie, or it'll be too late." Susan frowned.
"Don't worry, I'm always on the lookout. Wait for my call," Leon nodded.
"Okay." Susan was really at her wit's end, just like Ellie said, and could only wait for Leon to bring her news about Seb.
A few days later, the tabloids were buzzing that Seb was about to marry Ellie. Even though it wasn't officially confirmed and seemed like a rumor, Susan knew it was true. The Prosperity Group would probably announce their wedding soon.
That evening, Susan suddenly got a call from Leon.
"Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson has a meeting with Mr. Murray to play bowling at the Elysian Club tomorrow afternoon," Leon revealed.
Hearing this, Susan was thrilled. Seb rarely went out these days, so it was really hard for her to get close to him.
"I got it, thanks, Leon." Susan hung up, feeling a glimmer of hope.
Susan paced back and forth in her room, trying to figure out how to approach Seb the next day.
Early the next morning, she headed to the Elysian Club.
Standing in front of the club's entrance, Susan felt totally out of place.
This was a private club, and its high-end vibe was pretty intimidating.
After asking around a bit, she found out that only members could get in. No non-members allowed, and the annual membership fee was sky-high, plus you needed a recommendation from a member.
While Susan was stressing out, she noticed a job notice posted on the club's outer wall.
They were hiring female waitstaff with some pretty high standards: at least 5'5" tall, under 28 years old, good-looking, with a college degree or higher, and relevant work experience.
Seeing these requirements, Susan's hope started to fade. She didn't meet the age and height criteria.
As she was worrying, she saw a young, pretty waitress storming out of the club, looking pissed off.
"What's the big deal? If you don't want me to work here, there are plenty of other places that will!" The waitress in a black vest yelled at the club's entrance.
Seeing this, Susan walked over with a smile and asked, "Miss, why are you so upset?"
The waitress, eager to vent, grabbed Susan and complained, "I work here, and I accidentally spilled a little water on a guest. The manager fired me for it. It's so unfair, especially since the guest didn't even care!"
Hearing this, Susan felt for her. "This club looks fancy, but it treats its employees so harshly?"
"Yeah, it's strict, but the pay is really good. I won't find another job that pays this well," the waitress pouted regretfully.
"Everyone has their troubles. My husband is rich, and I live a comfortable life at home, but now he has a mistress. He doesn't come home for weeks, and the mistress is so arrogant, even calling me to ask why I don't get a divorce, saying I'm clinging to my husband," Susan pretended to be sad.
Hearing this, the waitress immediately cursed, "Men with a little money get so cocky, and those women are just after their money. However, they think it's true love!"
Seeing the waitress sympathize with her, Susan seized the moment. "I heard my husband often brings that mistress to this club. I want to catch them in the act, but I'm not a member and can't get in. I'm really worried!"
Seeing Susan's distressed look, the waitress thought for a moment and then smiled. "I have an idea you could try."
"What idea?" Susan asked eagerly.
"Since I'm not working here anymore, I'll give you my uniform. You can wear it and pretend to be a new waitress to get in. Just catch them in the act!" the waitress suggested.
Hearing this, Susan was overjoyed. She hadn't expected her problem to be solved so easily.
Then, Susan took out a wad of cash from her purse and handed it to the waitress. "Thank you, consider this payment for the uniform."
