Chapter 868 Understanding

Watching Susan's shy retreat, Hugo chuckled and called out, "Hey, wait up! Don't get lost!"

Susan didn't respond. With confidence, she followed his previous path, certain she could find her way back.

As Susan picked up speed, Hugo's grin widened.

She made it back to her room in one go, no problem.

Once inside, Susan leaned against the door, her face burning up.

She was still in shock from hugging Hugo out of nowhere. She could still smell his scent.

Thinking about Hugo's scent brought back memories of Seb's.

Susan shook her head, scolding herself, 'Stop thinking about him. He's married now and out of your life!'

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

"Who is it?" Susan asked, already knowing it had to be Hugo.

Sure enough, Hugo's cheerful voice came through. "Susan, it's still early. You can sleep a bit more. I'll wait for you downstairs at eight for breakfast."

"Okay," Susan quickly replied.

When she didn't hear anything else, she figured he had gone back to his room and sighed in relief.

But then Hugo's voice came again. "Susan!"

She jumped.

"Can I get my robe back?" Hugo stammered from outside.

Susan looked down and realized she was still wearing Hugo's robe.

She fixed her hair, touched her warm cheeks, took a deep breath, and opened the door.

Hugo stood there, shirtless, grinning at her with his lively blue eyes.

'Why is he looking at me like that?' Feeling awkward, Susan handed the robe to Hugo. "Here you go."

As Hugo took the robe, he brushed her hand, whether on purpose or not.

Feeling the warmth of his touch, Susan quickly pulled her hand back like she'd been burned.

Hugo smiled at her reaction. "Get some more rest. After breakfast, I've got a place to take you."

Curious, Susan looked up, wanting to ask where.

But Hugo had already smiled and walked away.

Hearing him open the door to the next room, Susan quickly stepped back and shut her door.

She messed up her hair in frustration and threw herself onto the bed.

She felt useless, getting flustered just from one look from Hugo.

Lying there, she eventually fell asleep again. After freshening up, she sat at her dressing table, lost in thought.

Hugo seemed to treat her differently. She couldn't keep interacting with him like this; she had to leave.

Even though Susan wasn't the traditional type and Seb had already moved on, she didn't feel any obligation to stay loyal to him. But she definitely didn't want to get tangled up with Seb's friend.

Still, Hugo's blue eyes were pretty captivating. But Susan knew she wouldn't fall for him; her heart and mind were still stuck on Seb.

Thinking about it made her frown; she felt all sorts of conflict.

Susan realized that obsessing over anything before letting Seb go was pointless, so she decided to just go with the flow.

She headed downstairs in the same clothes as yesterday.

When she got to the dining room, Hugo was already there, waiting at the table.

Seeing her, Hugo stood up like a gentleman and pulled out a chair for her.

"Thanks," Susan said, sitting down across from him, trying to stay calm.

Her face showed no sign of the earlier shyness.

"These are some famous snacks from Rainbow City. Dig in. I've got a physically demanding activity planned for you later," Hugo said with a mysterious grin.

Hearing this, Susan, who had been planning to say goodbye, couldn't help but get curious. "What kind of activity?"

"You'll find out soon. For now, let's eat." Hugo started eating.

Seeing him dig in, Susan followed suit.

The Rainbow City snacks were delicious. Being a foodie, Susan couldn't resist and ended up eating a lot.

After they finished, Susan looked up and found Hugo's blue eyes staring at her.

Feeling puzzled, she was about to ask something.

But Hugo waved his hand.

A young maid came over with a square box in her hands.

Hugo smiled and said, "You need to change clothes first."

"Change clothes?" Susan frowned, wondering what he had planned.

Hugo stood up, took the box from the maid, and handed it to Susan. "Hurry up and change!"

"But my clothes are fine," Susan protested, but Hugo wouldn't hear it and gently pushed her into a room on the first floor.

With no other option, Susan opened the box.

Inside, she found a black and red outfit and a pair of boots.

After a bit, she changed into the clothes.

To her surprise, everything fit perfectly. She wondered how Hugo managed to get such well-fitting clothes and shoes in the middle of nowhere.

Standing in front of the mirror, she saw a different version of herself.

She was adorned in black pants, a red shirt with ruffled sleeves, a flowing black vest, and a red hat accented with black lace.

At that moment, Susan realized what Hugo had in mind.

She was dressed for riding.

Susan had barely experienced horseback riding, save for a casual tourist ride she once took with colleagues.
