Chapter 1103 Showing Affection

Lunch with Skylar left Cecilia feeling unusually desolate.

It turned out that Daryl and Skylar's relationship had started when they were just kids, and they were a couple blessed by both families.

She thought, 'And what about me? Is Daryl's relationship with me just a whim? Moreover, he pretended to be poor just to experience a poor man's love with me?'

Cecilia felt hurt, realizing that Daryl wasn't sincere when he was with her.

However, she had invested her whole heart and soul. Even though she didn't stick it out in the end, her feelings for Daryl were genuine back then.

Although the past six months with Daryl had been under a contract, Cecilia believed that Daryl truly loved her at the beginning. He gave her $104,000 to be his bedmate, probably just to get back at her. His feelings for her must have been real.

But it turned out that everything was just a whim for him. The one he truly loved and wanted to marry had always been Skylar.

That night, Cecilia cried a lot, soaking half of her pillow with tears.

The next morning, Cecilia told herself, 'I must let go of my feelings for Daryl. In another six months, I would be free, and Daryl and I would have nothing to do with each other anymore.'

However, feelings weren't something she could just take back at will. Cecilia knew she couldn't have any more feelings for Daryl. Otherwise, she would only end up hurting herself. So she buried those feelings deep in her heart, hoping they would disappear one day.

A few days later, Cecilia's phone rang.

When Cecilia took out her phone and saw the caller ID, she frowned.

It was Skylar's number. After hesitating for a moment, Cecilia answered the call.

After all, Skylar hadn't done anything wrong to her and even considered her a friend. It wouldn't be right to ignore her call.

"Skylar," Cecilia answered the phone.

"Cecilia, I'm at Elysian Eats on Meadowbrook Lane. Let's have lunch together, okay?" Skylar's sweet voice came through quickly.

Hearing the invitation, Cecilia instinctively declined. "Skylar, I'm sorry, I have a class to prepare for this afternoon, I can't make it."

But before Cecilia could finish, Skylar interrupted her, "Cecilia, I'm going back home tomorrow. Don't you want to see me off? Besides Daryl, you're my only friend here. Who knows when we'll meet again after I leave!"

Hearing that Skylar was leaving, Cecilia felt a sudden pang of anxiety, thinking, 'She is really leaving. Would Daryl return to the villa once she is gone?'

Cecilia suddenly realized she was actually looking forward to that day. The next moment, she warned herself, 'Cecilia, you're just someone to keep Daryl company when his official girlfriend isn't around. Why are you so eager?'

But hearing Skylar's words, Cecilia had no choice but to agree. "Alright, I'll be there soon."

Cecilia had prepared a gift, after all, she didn't want to take Skylar's phone for free, especially since it was a new, expensive model.

Fifteen minutes later, Cecilia arrived at the restaurant Skylar mentioned.

"Cecilia!" Hearing the call, Cecilia looked up and saw Skylar waving at her from a window seat.

The next moment, Cecilia walked over.

"Skylar, are you really leaving tomorrow?" Cecilia asked with concern after sitting down.

Skylar smiled and said, "Yes, I've been in Northstar City for over twenty days. Daryl has been with me every day, seriously affecting his work and studies. So it's better for me to go back. Once he gets his PhD, we'll have plenty of time to be together, don't you think?"

Hearing this, Cecilia felt a pang in her heart but then smiled and said, "You're so understanding. Whoever marries you will be very lucky."

"You're not bad either. You'll definitely find a good partner in the future." Skylar laughed.

Hearing this, Cecilia lowered her head and said nothing.

At this moment, Cecilia heard steady footsteps approaching.

The next moment, she looked up and saw Daryl walking towards them.

When Daryl saw Cecilia, he instinctively paused for a moment but quickly walked over.

"Daryl, you're here?" Skylar was naturally excited to see Daryl.

"Skylar, I'm sorry I'm late. There was a meeting at the company," Daryl apologized to Skylar first.

"It's okay, work is important," Skylar said with a gentle smile.

"I know you're the most understanding," Daryl said, reaching out to touch Skylar's head.

Skylar blushed and smiled shyly.

Then, Daryl sat down next to Skylar.

Looking at Cecilia, Daryl said, "Ms. Thorne, you're here too?"

Hearing Daryl speak to her, Cecilia looked up and met his deep eyes.

At that moment, Cecilia felt he was a stranger because his eyes were distant, and there seemed to be a hint of reproach in them.

Such a look hurt Cecilia, but she understood that their relationship had started as a whim. At least, that was how he felt about her. The current truth negated all the initial beauty.

The next moment, Cecilia responded indifferently, "Mr. Fields, hello."

"Hello," Daryl said coldly, staring at Cecilia.

Their eyes met in the air for a moment, both filled with coldness.

At this moment, Skylar suddenly smiled and took Daryl's arm, saying, "Daryl, I'm leaving tomorrow, so I called Cecilia at the last minute. Otherwise, we wouldn't have had time to say goodbye. You don't mind, do you?"

"Of course not," Daryl said generously.

Hearing this, Cecilia lowered her head slightly. She thought: 'So they have already planned this, and I am just a last-minute addition.'

At this moment, Skylar looked at Cecilia and said, "Cecilia, I didn't invite you alone. You don't mind, do you? I'm leaving tomorrow, and I really want to spend more time with Daryl, but I also want to see you. I'm just too greedy!"

"Of course not," Cecilia said, looking up. At that moment, she accidentally met Daryl's gaze.

His gaze made her uncomfortable, so she quickly looked away.
