Chapter 52 Never Let You Leave the House Again
Susan brushed off Kathy's objections, changed her clothes, and got ready to head out.
Kathy, ever the responsible one, blocked her at the door. "Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson said you shouldn't go out. If I let you, he'll blame me when he gets back."
While slipping on her shoes, Susan replied, "I'll take the heat, Kathy. I don't have the right clothes to meet Todd and Carol. First impressions matter. Do you want them to hate me forever?"
Kathy thought it over and reluctantly agreed. "Fine, but I'm coming with you. If anything happens, I can help."
"Kathy, you're the best!" Susan exclaimed, dragging her to the mall.
By the end of the afternoon, Susan had bought several outfits, shoes, and bags, all charged to Seb's card. Since she was meeting his parents, it was only fair he paid.
When they got back, the city lights were already on, and Seb was sitting on the living room sofa, looking stern.
"Mr. Anderson, you're back?" Kathy, laden with shopping bags, looked a bit nervous when she saw Seb.
"Where have you been?" Seb's eyes locked onto Susan.
"I went shopping with Mrs. Anderson," Kathy quickly answered.
"Didn't I tell you not to let her go out?" Seb's gaze shifted from Susan to Kathy.
Before Kathy could respond, Susan stepped forward. "Don't blame Kathy. I made her go with me to buy some things."
Seb's eyes darkened, displeasure evident on his face.
"I'll go make dinner," Kathy said, scared, placing the shopping bags on the sofa and slipping into the kitchen.
"Do you think I won't do anything to you?" Seb's voice was cold, his gaze icy.
Susan plopped down on the sofa, rubbing her sore legs. "I know you will. You're always ruthless. So, what’s it gonna be? Tear me to pieces or skin me alive?"
Susan's defiant attitude enraged Seb. He suddenly stood up, pointing at her. "You're pregnant, so I can't tear you to pieces or skin you alive, but I can make sure you never leave this house again!"
With that, he stormed upstairs.
Watching him leave, Susan rolled her eyes, thinking, 'Seb is so overbearing. It's just a shopping trip. Is it worth all this fuss?' In her anger, she kicked a cushion off the sofa.
Seeing Seb had gone upstairs, Kathy quickly ran out of the kitchen and whispered to Susan, "Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson responds to softness, not hardness. You should go upstairs and coax him."
Susan, naturally unwilling, retorted, "I don't have time to coax him. I need someone to coax me!"
Kathy frowned and earnestly advised, "Mrs. Anderson, you can't confront men head-on. You need to be soft when he's hard and hard when he's soft. You need to master the skills to keep Mr. Anderson wrapped around your finger."
Hearing this, Susan stared at Kathy for a long time before laughing. "Kathy, you sound like a love expert. How many times did you fall in love when you were young?"
Susan's words made Kathy blush, and she quickly changed the subject. "Go upstairs and explain to Mr. Anderson that you went out to buy things to meet his parents."
Kathy stuffed the shopping bags into Susan's hands and nudged her towards the stairs.
Well, Seb sure has a loyal servant, Susan thought as she stood at the master bedroom door with the shopping bags.
Hesitating, she felt it was a bit humiliating to go in like this, so she turned to head back to the guest room.
Just then, the master bedroom door swung open.
Susan turned to see Seb standing in the doorway, his face cold. Her hands shook, and the shopping bags tumbled to the floor.
"Ouch!" Susan swayed with the sound.
Seeing this, Seb quickly stepped forward, grabbing her waist and asking nervously, "Are you okay?"
Susan held her head and said softly, "I'm fine, just felt a bit dizzy."
Seb bent down and scooped her up, carrying her into the master bedroom.
His arms were strong, and his embrace was comforting. For a moment, all the unpleasantness in Susan's heart vanished.
Susan watched as he carefully placed her on the bed, then turned to pour a glass of warm water and handed it to her. Seb softly complained, "You must have worn yourself out this afternoon. Do you understand you're pregnant now? Overexertion can easily lead to a miscarriage. If not for yourself, think about the baby!"
"I know I was wrong." Susan lowered her eyes in guilt.
She wasn't guilty for not listening to Seb but because, at the moment he opened the door, she had played a little trick, dropping the shopping bags and pretending to faint.
Susan just wanted him to stop being so harsh on her. She didn't expect him to be so worried. She really had taken advantage of his concern, and now she felt very guilty for making him worry.
Afterward, Seb's face softened, and he seemed less angry.
"This afternoon, I got over a dozen notifications of your spending. Looks like you had a great time shopping!" Seb took out his phone, scrolling through the messages.
Hearing this, Susan's eyes widened. She grabbed his phone and looked down. Sure enough, it was true. All her spending details were sent to his phone.
Seb had linked the card he gave her to his phone number, allowing him to track her expenses. Susan returned the phone, feeling uneasy. She sensed she was under surveillance, anticipating future financial scrutiny and pressure.
Seeing Susan pouting, Seb frowned. "Hey, what's wrong? I don't care about the money."
"I feel like I have no privacy," Susan frowned, looking a bit troubled.
"I'm your husband now. What privacy do you need?" Seb's deep eyes stared intently at Susan as he spoke.
His gaze made Susan a bit uneasy. She immediately sat up, hugging a pillow, and asked, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"I'm wondering if I still don't fully understand you," Seb said, reaching out to snatch the pillow from Susan's arms and tossing it to the floor. He leaned in, placing his hands on either side of her head.
