Chapter 829 By Any Means Necessary

A month and a half later, Seb finally ditched the wheelchair.

Susan was secretly thrilled that Seb could walk again, even if he still needed a cane when he went out.

On her way home from work that day, Susan's phone buzzed. It was Leon.

"Leon?" Susan answered quickly, seeing his name pop up.

Leon never called unless it was something big.

"Tonight at seven, Mr. Anderson's meeting a friend at the Inferno Bar on Galaxy Road. You might wanna try your luck. Act like it's a coincidence," Leon's voice came through.

"Got it." Susan's heart raced with excitement.

She'd been waiting for this chance for a month and a half.

She quickly scarfed down some pasta at a street stall and grabbed a cab to Galaxy Road.

By the time she got to the Inferno Bar, it was already half-past seven. The bar was brightly lit and teeming with people.

Susan had no clue who Seb was meeting, but she couldn't just walk up and spill everything about their past. If she did, Seb would probably blow her off like last time. She needed a smoother way in.

Inferno Bar was a hotspot in Maple Valley, known for its swanky decor and pricey drinks. The crowd was all high-class.

Through the big glass windows, Susan saw men in suits and ties, looking all polished and sophisticated. The few women there were dressed to the nines, almost like they were trying too hard.

Susan glanced down at her own outfit.

Black dress pants, white shirt, hair down, black heels—pretty ordinary.

This wasn't gonna cut it.

She frowned and looked around.

Across the street, she spotted two high-end clothing stores.

Without hesitation, she headed over.

As soon as she walked into the fancy store, a sales assistant greeted her with a smile, "Ma'am, what kind of clothes are you looking for?"

Susan scanned the suits and shirts in the store and asked, "Got any short dresses with a low neckline? Something sexy?"

The assistant listened, frowned a bit, then smiled. "One moment, please."

Susan waited, noticing the store mostly sold professional women's wear.

A minute later, the assistant came back with a gold dress. "Ma'am, does this meet your needs?"

Susan took the dress and checked it out. Deep V-neck, cinched waist, and short—perfect.

"Can I try it on?" Susan asked.

"Of course, right this way!" The assistant led her to the fitting room.

In the fitting room, Susan slipped into the gold dress, added black stockings and high heels, and stepped out.

Standing in front of the mirror, Susan barely recognized herself.

The gold dress hugged her curves, the black stockings added a touch of allure, and the deep V-neck showed off just enough of her chest.

The assistant smiled and said, "Ma'am, this dress looks amazing on you. Plus, it's a steal right now since it's last year's style—half off."

Looking at her reflection, Susan felt a pang of sadness. She'd never had to dress like this before. She used to judge women who did, but now she had no choice.

The assistant's compliments only made her feel worse.

"Alright, I'll take it," Susan said, not even asking the price as she handed over her card.

The assistant beamed. "Thank you for your purchase."

After paying, Susan tied her long hair into a bun, then walked out of the store in her high heels, head held high.

Gripping the bar's door handle, Susan took a deep breath and walked in with determination.

As soon as she stepped inside, a waiter in a black vest approached. "Ma'am, how many in your party?"

"I'm here to meet a friend," Susan said calmly, though her nerves were jangling. She hadn't been to a place like this in years—not since she first met Seb.

Scanning the bar, she spotted Seb in a corner with a middle-aged man in a suit. The guy was a bit overweight, with thinning hair and a greasy look.

Just as she was figuring out how to approach them, Seb stood up with his cane and headed to the restroom.

This was her chance. She took a deep breath and walked over.

Standing in front of the middle-aged man, she placed one hand on her hip, her long legs in black stockings catching his eye.

"Mind if I join you for a drink?" Susan asked softly.

The man's eyes lit up, practically drooling.

Seeing his lecherous gaze made Susan feel sick, but she had to push through to get close to Seb.

"Of course!" The man nodded eagerly and called the waiter to order more drinks.

Susan sat on the couch, but the man patted the spot next to him, wanting her closer.

With no choice, she scooted over but kept about a foot and a half between them, feeling tense.

The man leaned in, his hand awkwardly hovering, his eyes roaming over her.

"What's your name?" he asked, his face way too close.

"Susan," she said, turning her face away, feeling suffocated.

"I'm Dean," he said, trying to sound charming.

Feeling his eyes practically undressing her, Susan quickly picked up a cocktail and forced a smile. "How about a drink?"
