Chapter 405 Everything Is My Responsibility
Hailey saw Dorothy charging at her, not flinching. Instead, she stepped up, ready to throw down.
Catherine and Susan couldn't just let them go at it; it'd be a total mess and super awkward.
They jumped in between Dorothy and Hailey, keeping them apart.
“Dorothy, chill out!” Catherine said, holding back the raging Dorothy.
Seeing it was Catherine, Dorothy pointed at Hailey and yelled, “Mom, didn't you see how she treated me? Let me go. Let's teach this bitch a lesson together!”
“Dorothy, stop making a scene, okay? Listen to me and come back with me!” Catherine said, trying to drag Dorothy away.
But Dorothy wasn't having it and snapped at Catherine, “Are you really my mom? You're just gonna stand there while they bully me? Henry treats me like crap, and now you do too. Are you even my family? I don't wanna live anymore!”
Dorothy threw a fit, and Catherine, looking totally stressed, didn't know what to do.
Meanwhile, James was stirring the pot. “Yeah, the homewrecker's winning, and the wife’s losing it. What kind of messed-up world is this? Back in the day, a bitch like that would've been hanged, not strutting around like she owns the place.”
Everyone started pointing and cursing at Hailey. Even though Hailey was usually tough, her face darkened.
Susan shot James a dirty look and then, seeing Catherine's pale face, stepped up to pull Dorothy away. “Dorothy, knock it off. Can't you see mom's about to pass out? Do you want to kill her?”
Dorothy turned to Susan. “Sis, no matter how bad things are between us, you can't side with the mistress and gang up on your own sister, right?”
“You…” Susan's face went pale.
She knew arguing with Dorothy was useless. The guy who started all this had to step up and fix it.
So, Susan yelled inside, “Henry, if you're a man, get out here. Don't let two women fight over you and dump all the blame on them!”
Susan's words hit home. A moment later, a sharp-dressed guy in a gray and white checkered suit walked out.
Seeing Henry, Dorothy got even madder and pointed at him, cursing, “Henry, you coward, you finally showed up!”
Hailey, seeing him, looked worried and whispered, “Why did you come out? Didn't I tell you not to? I can handle this.”
Henry's eyes were cold when he looked at Dorothy, but they softened when he looked at Hailey. He said gently, “I'm a man. I should take responsibility for this.”
Seeing this, Susan knew Henry had real feelings for Hailey and that it was over between him and Dorothy.
Susan felt a deep sadness for Dorothy. But this was bound to happen; it just came sooner than she thought.
Then, Susan fired off, “Henry, what’s the deal with this chick? You know you’re still married, right? It’s pretty messed up to be flaunting another woman around. You’re a university professor; don’t you have any shame or guilt?”
In this mess, no matter what, Dorothy was the one getting screwed over, and she was Susan's sister, blood and all.
Sure, Dorothy was acting a bit nuts, but she had the moral high ground this time. Even if they ended up divorced, Henry was the one who cheated.
“This guy’s got a family and a kid but still goes after a side piece. Look at your kid, so pitiful. You’re heartless!” James, holding Amanda, started cursing Henry.
Hearing this, the crowd started giving Henry the stink eye.
Susan shot a look at James and whispered, “Cool it!”
Henry looked at Dorothy and said calmly, “Dorothy, I’m sorry.”
“Sorry? That’s it? What’s your deal with this woman? Spill it!” Dorothy pointed at Hailey, screaming like a banshee.
Henry turned to Hailey and said, “I’m with her. I love her.”
Susan was floored. Henry was usually all about honor, and she didn’t expect him to come clean like that. It was clear he’d already decided to divorce Dorothy and had real feelings for Hailey.
Susan felt a whirlwind of emotions. Henry wasn’t a bad guy; he was pretty stand-up. His current mess was partly Dorothy’s doing. But seeing Dorothy losing it now, maybe this was her way out, which might not be the worst thing.
Looking at Amanda, still crying in James’s arms, Susan felt a pang of guilt. This kid had to deal with endless fights between her parents. When the dust settled, she’d be in a single-parent home. Maybe their marriage was doomed from the start, and Susan felt guilty for pushing it.
Dorothy was first stunned, then stared at Henry in despair before charging at him like a wild animal.
“Henry, you heartless jerk, you say you love that bitch? I’ll kill you; I won’t let you two be happy!” Dorothy screamed, punching and kicking Henry.
Henry just stood there, taking Dorothy’s hits, head down.
Susan knew Henry was carrying a heavy load. He was trying to make up for his mistakes, as he had wronged Dorothy. Seeing this, Susan felt a deep sadness.
Dorothy, still not satisfied, used her long nails to scratch Henry’s face several times!
Bright red marks appeared on Henry’s face, looking brutal.
Seeing this, Hailey jumped in front of Dorothy and shouted, “Dorothy, it’s all my fault. I seduced him. Take it out on me!”
But Henry wasn’t about to let Hailey take the fall. He pulled Hailey aside. “What are you saying? I’m the man; it’s all on me!”
