Chapter 576 You Are Too Naive
After hanging up the phone, Susan looked up at the sky, fully understanding Catherine.
Her relationship with Todd had finally reached a happy ending, and it was right not to complicate things further. After all they had been through, a peaceful life was comforting.
However, Susan had a vague feeling that Andrew's actions were a bit despicable, stirring up trouble among all the members of the Anderson family and now vying for power in the Prosperity Group.
Susan didn't want Andrew to cause any more trouble, so after much deliberation, she finally called Andrew.
"Andrew? It's Susan."
Andrew was momentarily stunned to hear Susan's voice, then laughed and said, "Oh, it's you, my sister-in-law. What's up?"
"I want to see you." Susan was very annoyed by Andrew's teasing.
Hearing this, Andrew laughed. "Haha, sure, I have time. But I don't know if you want to see me as an ex-girlfriend or as Seb's wife. If it's to reminisce, we should find a romantic place, don't you think?"
Susan couldn't be bothered to argue with him and said directly, "I'll be waiting for you at the head of Maple Valley Bridge. You better come right away!"
With that, Susan hung up the phone.
Maple Valley Bridge was located on the outskirts of the city, leading into town. She and Andrew used to come here every weekend for dates.
This place offered a view of the rolling river, with few people around. More importantly, it was free.
Years had passed, but Maple Valley Bridge was still as majestic as ever, and the river still flowed as it always had. But the people were no longer the same.
Twenty minutes later, a Mercedes pulled up by the bridge.
Susan looked up to see Andrew, dressed in a suit, walking towards her.
He looked more mature than before, and his designer suit and watch showed that he was no longer the poor man he once was. But the aura he now exuded was something Susan disliked, even detested.
Andrew walked over, glanced at the distant river, and was silent for a moment, seemingly reminiscing about those pure, unblemished times.
With his hands in his pockets, Andrew finally broke the silence. "Susan, did you bring me here for a trip down memory lane, or is there something else you wanted to discuss?"
Hearing this, Susan frowned.
She looked at the distant, surging river, the wind blowing her long hair, and calmly said, "Andrew, I asked you here just to make you see yourself clearly. Five or six years ago, you had nothing and were just a poor man. Now, you wear designer clothes, sport luxury watches, drive fancy cars, live in a villa, and have even become the Vice President of Prosperity Group. All of this is because of Rylee. Everything you have is because of Rylee and the Anderson family!"
Susan's words immediately struck a nerve with Andrew, and his voice rose. "Susan, did you call me here just to say this? I think you have too much time on your hands. Don't forget, everything you have now is also because of Seb. Don't think that just because you're married to Seb, you can consider yourself part of the Anderson family and think you're something special. Carol has never acknowledged you. To put it bluntly, if Seb divorces you, all you'll get is alimony, and nothing else!"
"I don't need your reminder. I know very well that my current happiness and everything I have is because of my husband, Seb. So I am always grateful and won't do anything to harm him. But what about you? Where is your gratitude? Rylee loves you so much, treats you like her life. And what have you done? Stirred up trouble among her family, deceived Carol into transferring shares to you so you can make a grab for power in Prosperity Group." Susan's voice shook with barely suppressed anger as she listed his transgressions.
"Enough!" Andrew impatiently interrupted Susan, frowning. "If that's all you wanted to say, I'm leaving."
"Stop right there!" Seeing him about to leave, Susan immediately called out to him.
Andrew stopped in his tracks, and Susan stepped in front of him, staring into his face and questioning, "Was it you who set up my mom and Todd at the budget hotel?"
Hearing this, Andrew was momentarily stunned, then sneered. "What are you talking about? I don't understand."
"Don't pretend. You must have used high-tech means to control my mom and Todd's phones and lured them to that budget hotel, right?" Susan's voice was a bit agitated.
Andrew sneered and said, "Susan, are you trying to clear Catherine's name? Catherine and Todd had an affair; they admitted it themselves."
"They would never go to a hotel for no reason. It must have been you!" Susan said.
Andrew still wouldn't admit it. "That's just your speculation."
Seeing that he wouldn't admit it, Susan nodded. "Fine, you don't have to admit it, but I know it was you. I'm warning you, don't stir up trouble in the Anderson family anymore, or I won't let you off!"
Hearing this, Andrew laughed out loud.
"What are you laughing at?" Susan glared at him.
The next moment, Andrew stopped laughing and stepped closer to Susan. "I'm laughing at how naive you still are. You're warning me? With what? Don't forget, my status is the same as yours now. You're the Anderson family's daughter-in-law, and I'm the Anderson family's son-in-law. You can't do anything to me. Not even Seb can do anything to me now. Do you know how much Carol trusts me? She trusts me more than Seb. Rylee treats me like her life; she can't live without me. Susan, my position in the Anderson family is more secure than yours!"
Susan took a step back, her lower back hitting the bridge railing.
She stared at Andrew, feeling that his ambition was too great, and she was very worried about Seb.
"Andrew, what exactly do you want?" Susan probed.
Hearing this, Andrew threw back his head and laughed out loud. "What does anyone want, Susan? To be on top! To be in control! Susan, I can tell you, all these years I've been humoring Rylee, treating her like a princess, while I was just like a humble servant. I've had enough; I've had enough a long time ago!"
