Chapter 1028 Picking Her Up from the Hospital

Isabella had been stuck in the hospital for days, hooked up to an IV. As expected, Leon hadn't shown up to bug her, but Susan came by every day.

Susan always brought hot soup, fresh fruit, and some gossip mags to keep Isabella entertained.

But today, the gossip mags and newspapers were all about Johnson Corporation and Leon.

Isabella skimmed through the gossip and frowned.

"What's up?" Susan asked, peeling an apple and noticing Isabella's expression.

"Take a look," Isabella said, handing over the papers and mags.

Susan quickly glanced through them and frowned too. "How do these gossip rags know everything? But Leon's in hot water this time. Seb said Johnson Corporation's stock has been dropping four percent every day, and the shareholders are already planning to kick Leon out!"

Isabella was stunned for a moment, then snapped, "He brought this on himself. Who told him to be so reckless?"

Susan sighed, "I think you're being stubborn. Don't you feel any pity or worry for him?"

"I can't wait to see him suffer!" Isabella said, still angry.

Susan chuckled. "You're still the same. But I think Bronte's behind this. She lured you to Johnson Corporation to cause a scene and had reporters ready to expose everything, making her relationship with Leon public to force him to divorce you."

Isabella was conflicted. She resented Leon, but seeing him in such a mess made her feel bad.

"So, don't fall into her trap. If you divorce Leon now, Bronte will be the happiest person!" Susan said, looking at the silent Isabella.

Isabella stared at Susan.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Susan asked nervously.

"I think you're here to speak on his behalf again, aren't you?" Isabella said.

"Hey, I'm just telling the truth. I didn't take any money from him!" Susan quickly explained.

Isabella narrowed her eyes. "I believe you didn't take his money, but I'm sure Seb persuaded you to convince me!"

Susan blushed, which was a dead giveaway.

"I knew you'd prioritize love over friendship," Isabella said, annoyed.

"Hey, I have my own judgment, okay? I feel like the thing between Leon and Bronte is fishy. Leon couldn't possibly have anything real with Bronte..." Susan was cut off.

"Alright, enough. Just peel the apple. I don't want to hear any more of this," Isabella interrupted.

"Okay, I'll peel the apple," Susan said, lowering her head and getting back to work.

Meanwhile, Isabella was lost in thought.

Over the next couple of days, Isabella not only had Susan buy newspapers but also checked a lot of news on her phone.

Johnson Corporation's stock was indeed tanking, and there were even rumors that the board was planning to oust Leon. It seemed Leon was really in trouble.

So, after five days of IV therapy, it was finally time for Isabella to leave the hospital.

Susan showed up early to handle the discharge paperwork. She stayed with Isabella for the last bit of her IV therapy while her housekeeper packed up Isabella's things.

Isabella sat by the window, feeling off, staring at the blue sky and white clouds.

"Why so quiet today? Still feeling crappy?" Susan asked with a smile.

Isabella turned to her, struggling to speak. "Do you think I messed up this time?"

"Huh?" Susan looked confused.

"Was I too impulsive? Going straight to Johnson Corporation's headquarters embarrassed Leon and tanked his company's stock. Now he's facing impeachment by the board. I checked the rules, and if the CEO gets impeached, he might be out!" Isabella said, looking guilty and worried.

She didn't know what was wrong with her. Didn't she want him to suffer? So why was she so worried now? She felt pretty useless, still unable to stop caring about him.

Susan laughed. "Yeah, you were a bit impulsive, but who wouldn't be in that situation? Especially with your fiery temper!"

"Was I really impulsive?" Isabella asked, unsure.

Seeing Isabella's worried look, Susan quickly reassured her, "Alright, what's done is done. No point in dwelling on it now. I think Leon can handle it. But, you still care about him, don't you?"

Isabella rolled her eyes. "I'm just too soft-hearted. Who would care about him? We'll soon have nothing to do with each other!"

Just then, a tall figure walked into the room.

Susan smiled. "Speaking of Leon, here he is."

Isabella turned and saw Leon, dressed in a black suit, walking in. She was stunned for a moment, then lowered her head, thinking, 'Didn't he say he wouldn't come to bother me? Why is he here today?'

"Susan, thanks for taking care of Isabella these past few days," Leon said, glancing at Isabella before turning to Susan.

Susan smiled. "Isabella's all better now, so I should step back."

She picked up her bag, ready to leave.

Seeing Susan about to go, Isabella looked up nervously. "Weren't you going to take me home?"

Susan glanced at Leon. "I promised Hayden and Spring to take them to the amusement park. Since Leon's here to take you home, I'll head out. Bye!"

Before Isabella could protest, Susan waved and quickly slipped away.

Isabella could only glare at Susan as she disappeared through the door.

Susan knew Leon was there to take Isabella home, so she quickly made her exit.

Not only did she leave, but she also took the caregiver, who had packed all of Isabella's stuff. She'd just keep it at her place for now since Isabella didn't need it. This way, she left the two of them alone.

As a friend, this was the best she could do.
