Chapter 557 Concern
After stepping out the villa, Susan held her bag in one hand and Hayden's hand in the other, her mind still replaying Kathy's words.
Thinking about it, Kathy was right. But their conflicts weren't just because of the issue with Carol; their conflicts were truly difficult to resolve.
After dropping Hayden off at preschool, Susan turned around and was about to hail a cab.
Unexpectedly, a Range Rover suddenly stopped right in front of her!
Susan looked up and saw a man in a silver suit stepping out of the driver's seat.
Seeing him suddenly, Susan was visibly stunned!
Noticing Susan's surprised expression, George hesitated for a moment, then apologized sincerely, "I'm sorry for showing up so suddenly. Did I catch you off guard?"
Although Susan was surprised to see George, seeing his cautious demeanor made her feel a bit sad. She really didn't want to make him feel hurt, but she felt powerless.
"No, you're overthinking it," Susan said.
"Can we talk?" George looked at Susan with a sincere yet somewhat reserved demeanor.
Seeing George's furrowed brow, Susan thought, 'It looks like he came specifically to find me today. He must have something important to say.'
So, Susan looked at George's car and said, "I was just about to call a cab. Perhaps you could give me a lift? We can talk on the way."
Hearing this, George smiled. "Sure."
George then eagerly opened the passenger door for Susan. After she got in, he drove the car onto the road.
The car drove smoothly down the road, but the atmosphere inside was a bit tense.
Susan frowned and said, "You came to see me about something specific, didn't you?"
"Nothing gets past you," George smiled.
"Just say what's on your mind, George." Susan said straightforwardly.
After hesitating for a moment, George frowned and asked, "Susan, how have you been lately?"
Hearing this, Susan frowned again and then smiled. "Did you come all this way just to ask me that?"
"No, I'm just concerned about you, worried that you might be feeling wronged," George quickly said.
Hearing this, Susan felt a bit impatient. She brushed her hair back and replied, "Seb treats me very well, and I'm doing great. You don't need to worry."
Susan's words were a bit stiff, and George immediately shook his head, saying, "Susan, please don't misunderstand. I'm not trying to come between you and Seb. I just... I feel I should tell you something."
"What is it?" Susan asked, suspiciously eyeing George, who seemed hesitant to speak.
George glanced at Susan and said, "Aunt Carol came to see me a few days ago with Rylee and her husband. Aunt Carol changed her will, giving half of the Prosperity Group shares that were originally all going to Seb to Rylee."
Hearing this, Susan was a bit dumbfounded.
She had heard from Seb about Carol's will. Carol intended for Seb to inherit the company, while her real estate and cash would go to Rylee. This wasn't just about favoring boys over girls; the Prosperity Group needed a major shareholder to ensure stable management and policies, which was beneficial for the company's interests.
When Susan first heard about this decision, she admired Carol's shrewdness. Too many shareholders could lead to internal power struggles, which could harm the company. Many famous corporations had fallen due to internal conflicts, a lesson to be heeded.
Susan didn't understand why Carol suddenly changed her will. 'Could it be related to me?' she thought.
Thinking about this made Susan nervous.
Seeing Susan lost in thought, George said, "I think Aunt Carol has some issues with you. Is it because your relationship with her is still strained?"
Hearing this, Susan remained silent, not knowing what to say.
Seeing this, George looked at Susan and asked with concern, "You don't look well. Have you been feeling troubled lately?"
Although George's words hit the mark, Susan felt very frustrated. She did want some care and concern, but it shouldn't come from George; it should come from Seb. But Seb had been so cold to her lately, almost ignoring her completely.
Thinking about this made Susan feel very sad, and her nose tingled, but she quickly looked up to avoid crying.
Seeing Susan's unhappy expression, George quickly said, "I'm sorry. I know I'm being intrusive, but I can't help wanting to care about you. I don't mean anything else; I just want to know if you're doing okay."
The next moment, Susan turned to George and calmly said, "George, I'm fine. As you said, the only issue I'm facing is the conflict with Carol. Every family has these problems. My relationship with Seb is very stable, and this conflict won't affect our relationship."
"That's good," George nodded.
Susan then said, "George, I know you care about me, but this... concern, for lack of a better word, is inappropriate. It could be misconstrued, and that wouldn't be fair to either of us, or our partners. Please, let it go."
At this point, George fell silent, not saying a word for a long time, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, his hands tightly gripping the steering wheel.
Seeing him like this made Susan feel bad too, so she said, "George, the past is the past. Let's cherish our futures."
"I understand. I won't bother you anymore," George finally said, though his lips seemed to tremble.
Susan knew she couldn't have any more entanglements with him; it would only harm both of them.
So, Susan said, "George, pull over."
He slammed on the brakes, the car screeching to a halt.
Due to inertia, Susan's body leaned forward.
George quickly reached out to stop her from leaning further, afraid she might get hurt.
But Susan had already regained her balance. She opened the car door and decisively said, "I hope you start a new life soon!"
Without waiting for George to respond, Susan quickly got out, closed the door, wrapped her coat around herself, and walked briskly away.
After walking for a long time, Susan turned around and saw that George's car hadn't followed. She felt slightly relieved.
At this moment, Susan thought of what George had said earlier, frowned, and then turned to walk directly toward the Prosperity Group building.
