Chapter 1358 I Seem to Have Wronged You
Upon hearing this, Susan pouted and said, "I know he's always been good to me, but why's he being so harsh this time?"
"You caused a huge scene at the office. Now everyone thinks Leon had something with that female assistant. It was so embarrassing for him. Men care a lot about their pride, you know. Now the higher-ups at the company are all gossiping about how Leon is afraid of his wife," Susan said, frowning.
Isabella lowered her head and frowned. "I know I was impulsive that day, making a scene at the office and becoming the laughingstock. But you don't know how arrogant that female assistant was. She was clearly trying to provoke me."
"So you fell for her trap," Susan said with a chuckle.
Isabella was filled with regret. "But I already fell for it. It's too late to say anything now. Leon is blaming me, and I'm just angry. But you know what they say—it takes two to tango. If that scam worked, Leon must've left the door open himself."
"Couples need to trust each other. You can't always be suspicious," Susan advised.
"Come on, how am I being suspicious? That female assistant sent flirty messages to his phone! If he had fired her right away, I would have believed him. But he didn't, so there must be something going on!" Isabella said, feeling justified.
"I saw those messages too. They were just about reminding him to take care of his health and drink more water. Firing her over that would be unreasonable," Susan said.
"You're just here to speak for him!" Isabella retorted.
"I didn't receive any favors or benefits from him. Fine, I won't say another word. You two can do whatever you want," Susan said, raising her voice on purpose.
"Hey, are you my friend or not? I'm about to be abandoned by Leon, and you're making sarcastic comments?" Isabella protested.
"Alright, I'll stop talking. I was trying to help you two reconcile, but now neither of you is happy. They say couples make up quickly after a fight, but outsiders really shouldn't get involved," Susan said, drawing out her words.
"Who's making up with him? I'm going to divorce him," Isabella pouted.
"Divorce? Can you really go through with it?" Susan asked with a smile.
"Why wouldn't I?" Isabella insisted, still stubborn.
At this point, Susan stood up and said with a smile, "I'm not going to argue with you anymore. I'm heading home. My three kids are waiting for me."
Isabella pouted and said, "I bet that big guy is waiting for you too."
Susan smiled and waved at Isabella before leaving the hospital room.
After Susan left, Leon returned to the room.
When Leon came in, Isabella deliberately leaned against the headboard, fiddling with her fingers and ignoring him.
Leon walked around the room twice, then sat by the bed and picked up an apple. "Want an apple?" he asked.
Isabella glanced at him and said, "Sure."
Leon smiled slightly and started peeling the apple with a knife.
The room was quiet, with only the sound of the knife peeling the apple.
Isabella glanced at Leon, her lips curling up a bit, feeling much better inside.
Soon, Leon handed her the peeled apple.
Isabella looked at the apple and frowned. "It's too big. How am I supposed to eat it?"
Leon took the apple back, cut it into four pieces, and handed one to Isabella.
Isabella took the apple without hesitation and started eating.
Leon's phone chimed with incoming messages.
Isabella frowned but continued eating her apple.
A few seconds later, Leon's phone chimed again.
"Who's messaging you?" Isabella asked, annoyed.
"Let me check," Leon said, pulling out his phone and opening the messages.
After reading a few lines, Leon frowned.
Isabella sensed something was off and snatched the phone from his hand.
She looked at the number and frowned. "It's that female assistant again?"
"She's not in a good mental state right now. Just ignore her," Leon said.
"I want to see what she's saying. Could it be some lovey-dovey nonsense?" Isabella said, her jealousy flaring up.
Leon's face darkened. "Can you stop making baseless accusations?"
"This time I caught you red-handed. Don't try to deny it!" Isabella insisted.
She opened the messages and started reading them one by one.
After a few messages, Isabella frowned and was stunned.
Seeing her expression, Leon snorted.
After a while, Isabella looked up at Leon in disbelief. "You fired her?"
"Did you think I would keep her around?" Leon replied, his face dark.
The messages were from the assistant, begging Leon not to fire her, playing the victim, saying she couldn't survive without the job. It made Isabella feel even more conflicted.
"Why did you fire her? We were in a conflict, and you kept her. What changed? Are you afraid you can't get rid of her?" Isabella asked, probing.
Leon was clearly angry, his voice rising. "Let me make it clear again. I have nothing to do with her. That's why I fired her confidently. I even paid her the compensation as per the contract. That money should be enough for her to live on for a while. I've done my part. Her future has nothing to do with me. I even blocked her number. If the messages keep coming, I'll have Douglas get me a new number tomorrow. Will that make you feel better?"
Hearing this and seeing Leon on the verge of losing it, Isabella suddenly burst into laughter.
Leon frowned. "What's so funny?"
Isabella looked down, embarrassed. "Leon, I think I might have misunderstood you."
"Might have?" Leon said, dissatisfied.
