Chapter 971 Protest

After saying that, Isabella grabbed the railing and started making her way down the stairs.

Leon quickly followed her, asking, "Where are you headed?"

"Just going downstairs to grab a sandwich," Isabella replied.

Leon, looking worried, said, "I'll get it for you. It's not easy for you to go up and down six flights with your belly!"

"No need, I can handle it," Isabella insisted, continuing her descent.

Leon tried to convince her a couple more times, but she wouldn't budge, so he just followed her down.

Isabella's belly was big and round. She held her waist with one hand and the railing with the other, struggling with each step.

Seeing her struggle, Leon's face tightened with concern.

Ten minutes later, they finally reached the sandwich shop, but it was packed, with a long line snaking out the door.

Isabella frowned but joined the end of the line.

Leon glanced at the crowd and saw at least twenty people ahead. He turned to Isabella and said, "Why don't you head back? I'll wait and bring it up to you."

"No need!" Isabella snapped.

Even though she kept a stern face, Isabella felt her heart softening towards him, but she was still fighting it.

Leon had no choice but to walk away.

As he left, Isabella felt a pang of emptiness and thought, 'He couldn't even stick around for a bit. Sure enough, he didn't care much about me or the baby either.'

The line barely moved, and Isabella, feeling sore and tired, supported her waist. Her belly was huge now, and standing for long periods was tough. She was already sweating from the trek down six flights.

Despite craving a sandwich, she considered giving up when she saw there were still a dozen people ahead.

Just as she was about to leave, a hand placed a small plastic stool behind her.

Isabella looked up to see Leon, sweat on his forehead, smiling brightly at her.

"If you're set on waiting, at least sit down," Leon said.

Isabella felt a wave of emotion.

She glanced at the stool, frowning.

Sensing her hesitation, Leon gently urged, "You might be able to tough it out, but the baby can't. The baby must be tired."

Hearing that, Isabella didn't argue and sat down.

Leon quickly helped her onto the stool.

This time, Isabella accepted his help without protest.

Seeing her settled, Leon put his hands on his hips, wiped the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand, and smiled with relief.

Ten minutes later, Isabella suddenly stood up, holding her waist.

"What's wrong?" Leon asked, seeing her pained expression.

"I need to use the restroom. Hold my spot," Isabella said, hurrying towards the public restroom.

Since her pregnancy had progressed, Isabella had to pee all the time. It was really annoying; having a baby was no joke.

After Isabella left, Leon stayed in line. Maybe the staffs were cranking out sandwiches fast because the line moved quickly. He got the sandwich but didn't see Isabella anywhere, which made him worry.

Leon looked around and noticed a crowd gathered not far away.

Two middle-aged women walked by, talking with regret. "There was a car accident over there. So sad, it was a pregnant woman. I think she's in critical condition!"

"A pregnant woman? That's awful, two lives at risk!"

Hearing this, Leon froze.

The sandwich slipped from his hand, and he bolted towards the crowd.

Leon sprinted to the accident scene, pushing his way through the crowd. The ambulance had arrived, and paramedics were loading the injured person onto a stretcher.

Ignoring everything, Leon shoved past a nurse and leaned over the stretcher, shouting, "Isabella?"

"Sir, please step back. We need to help her right away, and you can't take on this responsibility," the nurse said, pushing him away.

When Leon saw the woman's face on the stretcher, he hesitated for a moment, then sighed in relief and stepped back.

He had thought the accident victim was Isabella, and his heart had been in knots. If it had been her, he didn't know if he could handle it. He couldn't even imagine that outcome.

Seeing it wasn't Isabella, his tense state instantly relaxed. Leon touched his head, put one hand on his waist, and felt a wave of relief.

At that moment, Isabella was standing in the crowd.

After using the restroom, she saw the accident and came over to watch.

She had just seen Leon rush into the crowd like a madman.

Leon looked so distressed, his eyes full of tension, and she heard him calling her name desperately. Seeing all this, Isabella's heart completely melted.

His concern and anxiety for her couldn't be faked. He loved her. When he insisted on her aborting the baby, he must have had his reasons. She needed to ask him clearly; there had to be a misunderstanding.

"Leon?" Isabella called out.

Hearing her voice, Leon turned and saw Isabella standing there.

Seeing her safe and sound, Leon felt a rush of emotions and couldn't help but step forward and tightly embrace her.

Isabella felt him holding her so tightly, as if he wanted to merge her into his body.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you're okay! Do you know how worried I was? If anything had happened to you and the baby, I don't know what I'd do!" Leon said emotionally, then pushed Isabella's shoulders and kissed her several times.

Isabella stared blankly at Leon, but she could feel his excitement through his kisses.

The next moment, Leon hugged her again.

People around glanced at them, thinking they were a couple showing affection on the street.

Leon didn't care about the stares. Usually calm and reserved, he couldn't control his emotions at that moment.

"You're hurting me!" Isabella protested softly after a while.
