Chapter 434 Shameless

James strolled up to Susan with a big ol' grin and said, "Susan, I can't find Catherine and Dorothy anywhere. Heard you set up shop here, so I came lookin' for ya."

As he talked, James's eyes got all watery. Susan was kinda blown away by his acting chops. Did he really care that much about her?

"Who told you I opened a company here?" Susan shot back, ice-cold.

She had a pretty good hunch. Probably Sophia or Amelia spilled the beans. Amelia's business was right across the street, after all. But didn't he hate those two? Why's he still chattin' with them?

James looked a bit stunned, then said, "An old buddy told me. They all say you're killin' it now, started your own company. They say my luck's about to change."

Susan felt her blood boil. She spun around and plopped into a chair, saying, "Whether I'm doing well or not is none of your business, got it?"

"How can you talk to me like that? I'm still your dad!" James shot back, shameless as ever.

"Don't you dare say that again. We cut ties ages ago. I got nothin' to do with you!" Susan's face was stone-cold, no warmth at all.

Seeing Susan wasn't budging, James started cussing, "Susan, you're an ungrateful brat. I raised you, and now that you're doing well, you don't even acknowledge me? You're running a business, but who'd wanna deal with someone who doesn't even recognize their own father? You're greedy, ungrateful, and selfish!"

James yelled at the door, making sure everyone passing by and the nearby business folks could hear, hoping to pressure Susan into giving in. After all, Susan had a company now and cared about her rep.

Susan knew his game, so she stayed cool. Let him do his worst. If she let herself get guilt-tripped by him, she'd never break free.

Isabella and Maria saw the scene and quickly stepped in to calm things down. Even though the company was small, they still had to keep up appearances.

"You say Susan's your daughter, yet you trash her like this? By shouting here, you're just making yourself look bad. Who's gonna believe you?" Isabella said.

"Believe it or not, I'm her dad. Even if I split with her mom, I raised her for years. Now she's acting like she doesn't know her own family. It's downright ungrateful!" James stomped his foot and cursed.

Hearing this, Susan was fuming.

Susan pointed at Isabella and Maria and said, "Let him say whatever he wants. I don't care. To me, my dad's already dead! If he causes trouble, call security."

After saying this, Susan's eyes got red too.

She could never forget the rough times of her childhood, the tough days she and Dorothy and Catherine went through. Thinking about it now was just too much.

"You're heartless. I'll sit right here and curse you every day. Let's see how you run your business then!" James, totally defeated, plopped down on the floor by the door.

Seeing James making a scene, Susan rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on. Isabella and Maria exchanged helpless looks, not sure what to do with this guy.

"Susan, what should we do?" Isabella whispered, walking up to her.

Susan shrugged, trying to act cool. "What can we do? Let him be. If he wants to make a scene, we just won't do business."

"How can that be?" Isabella frowned.

"What's going on here? Causing trouble at someone's door? Leon, call the cops right now!" A familiar male voice suddenly boomed from outside.

Susan looked up and saw Seb striding in, with Leon right behind him.

"On it." Leon immediately whipped out his phone to call the police.

James, still sitting at the door, looked up and saw Seb and Leon. Shamelessly, he kept going, "Even if the cops come, it won't help. This is a family matter. Have you ever seen the police stop a father from seeing his daughter?"

Seb smirked coldly, then squatted down and looked James in the eye, saying, "Do you believe I can have the police lock you up for disturbing the peace? You might not stay long, maybe two weeks, but given your age, those two weeks won't be a walk in the park. I can arrange for a tough cellmate to make your time inside even harder."

This scared James. Seb was rich and powerful, and he wasn't bluffing. So, James's attitude softened up real quick.

"Didn't you break up with Susan? Why are you here?" James asked nervously.

"Susan and I never broke up, and we're getting remarried soon," Seb said with a smile.

Susan felt a pang of anxiety. She was trying to dodge James, and now Seb was telling him they were getting remarried. James would definitely latch onto her in the future.

Hearing this, James's face lit up with joy. "Seb, what good fortune did Susan have to marry someone as distinguished as you."

Seb then stood up and warned James, who was still sitting on the floor, "Don't bother her again, or I won't let you off easy!"

James immediately put on a pitiful face and pleaded with Seb, "Seb, I'm really out of options. I'm old and have high blood pressure. I don't even have a place to stay. Look at my clothes; I haven't changed them in days. I'm sleeping under a bridge. Winter's coming, and I'll freeze to death. I have my pride, or I wouldn't be here embarrassing myself."

At this point, James started to cry.

Seb glanced at James and signaled to Leon.

Leon got the hint and pulled out a stack of cash from his bag, handing it to James.

"Here's two grand. Find a place to stay and settle down," Seb said to James.

"Seb, you're a saint!" Seeing the two thousand dollars, James's face lit up with excitement.
