Chapter 443 Encounter with Old Friends

Susan locked eyes with him and grinned. "I've never been in a place this swanky before."

'Is he just trying to mess with me? No way I'm falling for his tricks,' Susan thought.

"Of course, you wouldn't come here alone. I brought you," Seb said, smirking.

"Have you brought me here before? Why don't I remember? Or maybe it was some other chick?" Susan shot him a playful look.

Seb didn't even glance her way, just headed straight for the elevator. "I've only brought a woman named Susan here, and she even crashed for the night. Then she tossed me 150 bucks, not knowing a room here costs over a grand. If I did this every day, I'd be broke."

Susan chuckled and said, "You think you can just hook up with a girl for free?"

The elevator doors opened, and they stepped inside.

He looked down at her and grinned. "I don't do bad deals. One time was enough to get you knocked up with my kid!"

Susan blushed. "You're such a schemer."

"Not a schemer, just got some potent swimmers," Seb laughed.

"Get away!" Susan laughed and playfully scolded him.

He reached out and touched Susan's cheek, his eyes full of affection.

Susan beamed, feeling the warmth of his hand on her face.

After a while, the elevator doors slid open to the party floor.

Susan quickly pulled his hand away and said seriously, "We're here!"

As the doors opened, Seb's face turned serious, no trace of a smile. Susan took his arm and they stepped out.

Just then, the elevator across from them opened, and Susan saw two people step out.

Seeing the man and woman, Susan's mind went blank!

She hadn't expected to run into him, but it made sense. Even though today's event was a business party in Maple Valley, the business and legal worlds were closely linked. He was a top lawyer in Maple Valley, so it was logical for him to be here.

The two people across from them also paused, clearly not expecting to see Seb and Susan either.

From about ten meters away, Susan's eyes met George's.

Susan couldn't bring herself to look directly at him, so she lowered her head slightly. After all, the man beside her was her current husband, and facing George made her feel all sorts of things.

George's gaze lingered on her for a few seconds, and anyone could see the emotions in his eyes.

Seb noticed Susan's unease and reached out to hold the hand she had on his arm.

Feeling his grip tighten, Susan looked up and met Seb's eyes.

Seeing his gentle gaze, Susan smiled. She knew he understood her, and his comforting look made her feel much better and more at ease.

Then, Seb and Susan moved forward, and George and Jessica also walked out of the elevator and approached them.

"Seb!" George called out first.

"George, fancy seeing you here," Seb replied, all friendly-like, as if there were no old grudges between them.

Jessica turned to Susan. "Susan, it's been ages."

Seeing her old boss, Susan smiled. "Ms. Green, it really has been a while."

Jessica was looking stunning, radiating that mature, successful woman vibe. Standing next to George, they looked like a power couple, though Susan always thought George would be better off with someone softer.

Jessica was clinging to George's arm, leaning into him. Susan couldn't tell if they were really that close or if Jessica was just putting on a show because she saw her.

Either way, it wasn't Susan's problem. She just hoped George would find his happiness soon.

Jessica then turned to Seb and Susan with a smile. "I heard you two are tying the knot. Congrats, Mr. Seb Anderson and Susan!"

"Thanks," Susan replied, then her eyes met George's.

His eyes were filled with pain and helplessness, making Susan super uncomfortable. His gaze was way too intense, and Susan quickly looked down, worried Seb might notice and get upset.

Seb didn't miss George's look. He smiled at Jessica. "Don't just congratulate us. I bet you and George will be next, right?"

Susan glanced at Seb, thinking, 'Even though Seb and George don't talk much now, he should know what's up with George. Are George and Jessica really a thing?'

Jessica tightened her grip on George's arm and looked at him shyly. "Whether we get married or not is up to George!"

Jessica smiled, waiting for George to say something, but he stayed silent for what felt like forever, making Jessica look pretty bummed.

Susan quickly jumped in, "Your marriage is naturally up to the two of you."

Susan could tell George and Jessica seemed to be together reluctantly, with Jessica being the one pushing for it.

Seb patted Susan's hand. "We're already late. Let's head in."

"Alright," Susan nodded at Jessica, then walked into the banquet hall with Seb.

As Seb and Susan walked away, Jessica looked up at George, who was still staring after them. She asked, "Seeing her about to become someone else's wife, feeling a bit jealous?"

George frowned and said coldly, "Jessica, I've told you before, I can't promise you anything. You can leave anytime."

Jessica's lips twitched, but she held back her anger. "They just asked that earlier; I couldn't just stay silent, could I? I didn't mean to pressure you into marrying me. You're overthinking it."

"You better not, or you'll be disappointed," George said, then turned and walked into the banquet hall alone.

Jessica frowned but still followed George inside.
