Chapter 42 Backing Her Up
"Dorothy and Susan are grown-ups, alright? Quit using them as an excuse. You just want to get back with James. You're so shameless!" Sophia snapped at Catherine.
Seeing Sophia bully Catherine again, Susan couldn't take it anymore. She pointed at Sophia and yelled, "You were the homewrecker who ruined our family, and now you have the nerve to judge others? The most shameless person here is you!"
"Susan, how can you talk to Sophia like that?" James stepped in, scolding Susan.
Susan sneered at James, who was acting all righteous. "You're not my father anymore. And who is she to me? Don't make me sick. I have nothing to do with you shameless people!"
"Are you trying to kill me?" James clutched his chest, pretending to be in pain.
Catherine got anxious seeing James's act. She pulled Susan, who was defending her, and said, "Susan, stop. Don't upset your father!"
"I've said it before, he's not my father. My father died fifteen years ago!" Susan snapped.
Sophia stepped forward, pretending to be concerned. "James, don't get angry. It's not worth it over Susan. Let me handle her!"
Sophia turned to Susan and sneered, "Susan, stop calling me a homewrecker. You're not so innocent yourself. I heard you're pregnant. Where's your man? Why aren't you married yet? Is he married too?"
"Stop talking nonsense. I'm already married. We just haven't had the wedding yet. I would never be as shameless as some people, being a homewrecker," Susan shot back.
Amelia stepped in, sneering, "Already married? To whom? Today is Paul's wedding, a big event. Your husband should be here, right? But he's nowhere to be seen. I think you must be a homewrecker. You look like one!"
"Who are you calling a homewrecker? Say it to my face!" Susan stepped forward, furious.
With James and Sophia backing her, Amelia wasn't scared. She got even more arrogant, raising her chin and taunting, "I'm talking about you. What are you gonna do about it? You look like a homewrecker!"
"You asked for it!" Enraged, Susan slapped Amelia.
Amelia didn't expect Susan to hit her in front of James and Sophia. She covered her burning cheek, eyes filled with malice. "Susan, how dare you hit me? You'll pay for this!"
"Daring to hit Amelia, you must have a death wish!" Seeing Amelia get hit, Sophia rushed over to hit Susan.
Catherine, seeing this, was so anxious she didn't know what to do. She slapped her thigh and started crying. "Don't hit Susan!"
Seeing Sophia and Amelia rushing at her, Susan immediately protected her belly with her hands, thinking, 'It's over. I'm definitely gonna suffer today. I don't mind suffering, but please don't hurt my baby!'
Susan took two steps back. Sophia and Amelia lunged at her, one trying to grab her hair and the other trying to slap her. Susan closed her eyes and tightly protected her belly with her hands.
Just then, a figure appeared, shoving Amelia aside and causing Sophia to hit the ground. The hard marble floor made Sophia, being older, wince in pain.
Not only was Susan unharmed, but she also heard several cries of pain. She opened her eyes to see Seb standing beside her, while Sophia and Amelia were in a sorry state.
"Are you okay?" Seb asked, extending his arm to support the nervous Susan.
"I'm fine," Susan replied, momentarily stunned.
'Why did Seb step in personally? Wasn't he afraid of exposing our relationship? The agreement clearly stated that our marriage was to be kept secret,' Susan thought.
Seeing the tall and handsome Seb supporting Susan, dressed impeccably, and looking exactly like the man in the wedding photo, Catherine immediately recognized Seb as her son-in-law.
The next moment, Catherine ran up and smiled at Seb, "Seb, you're back from your business trip?"
Seb didn't react immediately. Susan whispered to him, "My mom saw our marriage certificate."
Seb immediately understood. He politely smiled at Catherine and said, "Mom, I'm back."
James and Amelia helped Sophia up. Hearing Seb call Catherine "Mom," they were both shocked.
James stepped forward with a forced smile and asked Seb, "Mr. Anderson, did I hear you call her 'Mom'? Did I hear it wrong?"
Seb looked at James and clearly answered, "You didn't hear wrong. This is my mom, my mother-in-law."
"What did you say?" James was stunned, his mouth agape, unable to speak.
Amelia was the most anxious. She pushed James aside and stood in front of Seb, asking in confusion, "Seb, did you say she's your mother-in-law? Are you and Susan married?"
Susan never expected Seb to acknowledge their relationship in such a setting. Shocked, she also felt a warmth in her heart. She knew he was here to help her out. Without him, she might have been beaten by Sophia and Amelia and lost her baby.
Seb, with no expression on his face, said to Amelia, "Miss Garcia, I told you before that we're not close enough to call each other by our first names. We're just business partners with no personal relationship. Please call me Mr. Anderson from now on."
Amelia's face turned red and white, unable to say a word.
Susan stood there coldly watching Seb teach Sophia and Amelia a lesson.
Sure enough, Seb continued, "And I hope you and your mother won't bother my wife Susan and my mother-in-law anymore. Otherwise, I'll make sure you can't stay in Maple Valley. I don't think I need to explain whether I have that ability, do I?"
Amelia still couldn't accept the fact that Susan and Seb were married. She pointed at Susan and asked Seb, "Are you really married to her? How is that possible? Are you sure you're not joking?"
At this moment, Seb suddenly took out a ring from his pocket. He handed it to Susan and seriously said, "Susan, you left our wedding ring on the sink this morning when you were washing your face. I wanted to give it to you earlier, but Charles asked me to accompany the guests from Shirley's family, so I didn't have a chance."
