Chapter 741 Bitterness
In the Anderson Family, there were always some people who were envious and resentful of Seb's family. Now, with his parents gone and his siblings scattered, they saw an opportunity to revel in his misfortune.
At this moment, Susan suddenly felt a deep sympathy for Seb.
It was rare for him to be in a position where he needed her pity.
After all, they had been in love for so many years and had two children together. Naturally, Susan didn't want others to laugh at him.
The next moment, Susan whispered, "Just now, I regretted coming here with you, but now I don't think so."
Hearing this, Seb frowned and asked, "What changed your mind?"
"After all, you are Hayden and Spring's father. I can't just stand by and watch you be ridiculed by others. Call it family loyalty." Susan found a good excuse to brush him off.
Seb's lips curled into a smile. "Then I thank you for your loyalty."
"You're welcome!" Susan said with a smile, raising her chin.
At a ten-person dining table, Seb and George formed a stark contrast.
Seb and Susan were chatting and laughing, holding hands under the table. To those who didn't know better, they seemed very much in love, as if their feelings couldn't be separated even after a divorce.
On the other hand, George and Maria were a different story. One was eating with his head down, while the other just watched, barely eating and almost not communicating at all.
Suddenly, Seb looked up at George across the table and said, "George, the money from Evergreen Ventures Group has been transferred to my account today. I'll have Leon transfer your principal and interest to your account tomorrow."
Hearing this, George looked up and said, "Thanks. I appreciate it."
"Don't mention it. I owe you one." Seb said with a smile.
George replied, "It was a business transaction, Seb. Nothing more."
"I'll remember this favor," Seb said, pointing to his chest.
George said, "Don't sweat it."
As he said this, George's gaze fell on Susan.
His gaze was complex yet focused, making Susan very uncomfortable, so she quickly lowered her head to avoid looking at him.
Maria noticed George staring at Susan without blinking, frowned slightly, and also lowered her head.
Seb frowned slightly and then said, "If you ever need anything, just come to me."
After saying this, Seb turned to Susan and said, "I think we've eaten enough. Let's leave early, shall we?"
"Sure," Susan quickly nodded. She didn't like the atmosphere here anyway.
The next moment, Susan stood up, and Seb considerately picked up her coat and helped her put it on. Susan could only reluctantly accept.
At this moment, George also stood up. Maria knew they were about to leave, so she quickly got up and brought George's coat to him.
"Thank you," George said expressionlessly as he looked at her, then put on his coat and walked straight out.
Seeing this, Maria quickly followed George.
Seb and Susan walked out of the hotel and stood on the steps waiting for their car.
Soon, George came out, glanced at them, and went to the parking lot to get his car, while Maria stood behind Susan and Seb.
Susan turned around and saw Maria, then smiled slightly.
At this moment, Maria suddenly stepped forward and said, "Susan, can I talk to you for a moment?"
Hearing this, Susan was stunned!
Susan could roughly guess what Maria wanted to talk to her about. It was definitely about George.
To be honest, Susan didn't want to discuss George with Maria, but at this moment, she couldn't refuse.
Seb patted Susan's shoulder and said, "I'll wait for you over there."
"Okay," Susan nodded.
Then, Seb walked a few steps away to wait for Leon to bring the car around.
After Seb left, Maria looked at Susan, hesitating to speak.
Susan smiled and said, "Just say what you want to say. I think we're still friends, right?"
"Of course!" Maria quickly looked up and said.
Susan carefully observed Maria. She seemed thinner than six months ago, with a melancholic expression, clearly indicating she wasn't happy.
Sure enough, Maria then smiled bitterly and said, "He still can't forget you."
Hearing this, Susan frowned, not knowing what to say to Maria for a moment.
Then, Susan quickly explained, "I haven't been in contact with him."
"Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming you. I just feel very upset and wanted to talk to you," Maria quickly shook her head.
Seeing Maria like this, Susan felt a bit stifled and could only comfort her, "Maria, you and George... you're building a life together. Love like that takes time to grow."
"I know. I'll try my best to be good to him. I believe that in time, he will fall in love with me," Maria said confidently.
Hearing this, Susan felt a mix of emotions.
'Love couldn't be forced or earned through sheer devotion.' she thought to herself, but Susan didn't want to dampen Maria's enthusiasm. After all, she and George were already married.
"I'm sure he'll realize how lucky he is to have you," Susan said with a smile.
"Yes," Maria nodded heavily, as if encouraged.
At this moment, Leon drove up, and Seb's eyes were on them.
George also drove up. After getting out of the car and seeing Susan and Maria talking, he walked straight over.
"What are you talking about?" George first looked at Maria, then his gaze fell on Susan.
"I..." Maria stammered, unable to speak.
Susan quickly said, "Maria was asking about our colleagues at the firm."
Hearing this, George said, "If you miss your colleagues, you can visit them anytime."
Although George's words were directed at Maria, his gaze was still on Susan.
Susan suddenly felt the air become a bit tense and quickly said, "It's really cold here. I'll leave now. Be careful on your way back!"
"Okay," Maria nodded.
George watched Susan leave.
At this moment, Leon had already opened the back door of the car, and Susan quickly got in.
Then, Seb also got in, and Leon started the engine, and the car slowly left the hotel behind.
Through the window, Susan saw George watching them leave before getting into his own car.
Turning back, Susan couldn't help but frown slightly.
