Chapter 937 Unfortunate

Isabella suddenly spotted Alfonso standing right in front of her and frowned. "Alfonso, what are you doing here?"

Alfonso noticed her surprise and glanced back at the bride and groom. "You forgot? I'm a lawyer too. George and I know each other, so I came to congratulate him."

Isabella forced a smile and nodded, thinking, 'Great, just my luck. I come here to see Leon, and now Alfonso's here too. This should be bad.'

"Want me to grab you something to eat?" Alfonso asked, eyeing the long table loaded with cakes and drinks.

"No, thanks," Isabella replied politely.

"If I'd known you were coming, I would've picked you up," Alfonso said kindly.

Isabella quickly responded, "No need to stick with me. I'll just watch the ceremony. Go hang out with your friends."

Alfonso hesitated for a moment. "I do have some people to say hi to. I'll come back and keep you company later."

"Okay," Isabella nodded.

Alfonso then walked off into the crowd with a glass of red wine.

After he left, Isabella rubbed her eyebrow in frustration. Why did she always meet Alfonso?

Just then, a male voice from above made her heart skip a beat.

"Susan asked me to look after you. Seems like she was overthinking it. You need his care, not mine."

Recognizing the voice, Isabella looked up.

Sure enough, there was Leon, dressed in a black suit, standing in front of her. His face was expressionless, and his deep eyes were unreadable. His tone had a hint of sarcasm, making him seem serious and intense.

Hearing the sarcasm, Isabella wanted to snap back.

But she remembered her own advice before coming here: Be patient, don't argue, control your emotions, and don't let this rare meeting turn into a fight.

Forcing a smile, Isabella replied, "I didn't know Alfonso would be here. He's also a lawyer and knows George, so he came to show support."

Leon seemed to calm down a bit.

With one hand in his pocket, he glanced to the side and his tone softened. "What do you want to eat? I'll get it for you."

Hearing him ask the same thing as Alfonso, Isabella wanted to facepalm, but she knew Leon's question was a gesture of goodwill.

"I'd like a strawberry cake," she said.

"I'll get it for you," Leon nodded and walked off.

Isabella watched him head to the food table, make a round, but then he didn't grab anything. Instead, he walked out of the banquet hall.

Isabella couldn't help but frown. She thought, Isn't he going to get me a cake? Why did he leave without saying a word? Does he even care about me? Isabella pouted.

A few minutes later, Alfonso came over with a plate of cake.

"Are you hungry? The tiramisu here is pretty good. Give it a try," Alfonso said, handing her the plate.

"Thanks," Isabella replied, taking the plate but feeling a bit let down. She wanted a strawberry cake, not tiramisu.

She took a bite. The tiramisu was indeed delicious, but it wasn't what she wanted.

"How is it?" Alfonso asked.

"It's good," Isabella nodded, though her mind was elsewhere.

Where did Leon go? Did Seb need him for something? Even if he had to leave, he should've told her, right? She was still waiting for that strawberry cake.

Not long after, a tall figure walked back into the banquet hall, holding a small, fancy box.

Leon headed towards Isabella, but as he got closer, he saw Alfonso standing next to her, and they were chatting and laughing.

Leon frowned when he saw Isabella holding a plate with half-eaten tiramisu.

He looked down at the delicate strawberry cake he had bought from outside, and his excitement dimmed.

Earlier, he couldn't find a strawberry cake at the venue, so he remembered a high-end cake shop nearby and went out to get one.

He had been looking forward to handing the strawberry cake to Isabella, imagining her happy reaction.

But now, Leon felt like he had swallowed a fly, thinking everything had been ruined by Alfonso.

Leon turned and handed the small box to his driver. "Put this in the car."

"Yes, Mr. Johnson," the driver said, taking the box and leaving the banquet hall.

While chatting with Alfonso, Isabella glanced up and saw Leon standing less than 30 feet away.

Seeing Leon's eyes fixed on her, Isabella's hand holding the plate stiffened, and she almost dropped it.

Luckily, Alfonso quickly caught the plate and smiled. "Your legs don't work, and now your hands don't either?"

Isabella gave an awkward smile, her eyes still on Leon in the distance.

"I'll put the plate back," Alfonso said, turning to do so.

Just then, Susan walked up to Leon and pulled him towards Isabella.

"Leon, I have to leave early. Please look after Isabella. She has trouble moving around. When the banquet is over, make sure she gets home safely!" Susan said to Leon with a smile, right in front of Isabella.

Leon put one hand in his pocket and said coldly, "I'll make sure she's taken care of, but it seems like she doesn't need me right now."

Susan looked a bit surprised.

She turned around and saw Alfonso walking towards them.
