Chapter 318 I Underestimated You
Linda snagged a spot like this to take Seb out for dinner, making her intentions crystal clear.
No wonder Linda kept grilling her about her thing with Seb.
That made sense, though. A knockout like Linda wouldn’t just settle for any dude. A guy like Seb? Yeah, he’d have women lining up.
Susan’s mind flashed with images of Seb and Linda together.
A guy like Seb would have women swarming him wherever he went. Tonight, they’d probably have a blast and maybe even hook up, right?
Even though Susan knew she and Seb were never gonna happen, and it was normal for Seb to have other women around, she still felt a stab of jealousy that made her super uncomfortable.
After work that day, Susan had to wrap up some stuff, so she left a few minutes late.
Susan walked into the elevator with her bag. Just as the doors were about to close, someone dashed in.
Susan looked up and saw it was Fiona. She couldn’t help but frown.
Seeing Susan in the elevator, Fiona hit the button for the first floor and sneered, "Susan, I really underestimated you. After all this time, those two guys are still helping for you. What kind of magic did you use to make them never forget you?"
"What are you talking about?" Susan shot back coldly.
Susan was momentarily thrown by Fiona’s words.
Then, Fiona said with disdain, "Don’t play dumb. You must’ve asked them to help, right? One’s the CEO of Prosperity Group, with all the resources, and the other’s a top lawyer with mad connections. Susan, I really don’t dare to mess with you in the future!"
At that moment, the elevator hit the first floor, and the doors opened.
Fiona shot Susan a look, then turned and quickly walked away with her bag.
On the way, Susan was fuming.
Even though the crisis was averted, George and Seb still gave her headaches. Once tangled up with them, she could never shake them off.
But Susan thought she was just an ordinary woman, and they must have their own reasons for helping her. George probably felt guilty, and Seb was likely doing it for the kids. After all, if she wasn’t doing well, the kids would suffer too.
With that thought, Susan felt a bit better.
Still, Susan sent a text to George, thanking him for his help but asking him not to interfere in her stuff anymore.
George replied shortly after: [Okay.]
Seeing that message, Susan felt a pang of guilt. She felt like she was hurting George over and over again, but if she wasn’t cold and distant, George would never forget her.
As for Seb, Susan picked up her phone and started typing a message, but after a moment, she deleted it.
She knew Seb too well. No matter what she said, Seb wouldn’t follow her wishes.
Thinking about how something might be going on between Seb and Linda tonight, she decided she'd better not to disturb them.
The next morning, when Susan rolled into the office, she heard Elliott had taken a week's leave. She couldn't help but feel a little giddy inside.
Fiona didn’t mess with her either. With Elliott gone, the other women in the office were pretty chill, so Susan had a smooth week.
In the Friday afternoon, after clocking out, Susan rushed home with the fruits and veggies she’d snagged during her lunch break.
She hadn’t seen Hayden in two weeks and missed him like crazy. Tonight, she wanted to whip up a killer meal for Hayden and Spring, and of course, for Isabella, who always had her back.
Susan dove into kitchen mode, hoping to get everything prepped before Hayden and Spring showed up.
The kitchen window was open, and she kept an ear out for the sound of cars pulling into the neighborhood.
Around seven, a black Bentley rolled in.
Seb’s car was hard to miss, so when Susan saw it, she bolted out of the house, apron and all.
Her hair was tied back with a headband, she was rocking a house dress, and a cartoon-patterned apron was tied around her waist. She was still clutching a spatula, totally forgetting to put it down. The way she dashed downstairs was straight-up hilarious.
Even Seb, chilling in the back seat, couldn’t help but stare through the window for a few seconds, a smile creeping onto his face.
The Bentley’s windows were top-notch; he could see out, but no one could see in, so he could openly watch Susan.
Leon opened the car door, and Hayden was the first to jump out, hugging Susan’s leg and looking up excitedly. "Mommy, I missed you so much!"
"I missed you too, buddy." Susan reached out to touch Hayden’s chubby little face, feeling all warm and fuzzy.
Then, Leon led Spring, who was dressed like a little princess, over to Susan.
"Mommy." Spring, a head shorter than Hayden, tugged at Susan’s dress with her tiny hand.
Susan immediately scooped up Spring and said with a smile, "Spring, I’m making a big dinner for you tonight, and for Hayden too, all your favorite dishes!"
"Yay!" Spring, with her limited vocabulary, clapped her hands.
Hearing this, Hayden was pumped at first, but then he frowned and said, "Mommy, can we ask Daddy to have dinner with us too?"
Susan frowned and said, "It’s already late, and your daddy can’t make it."
She had to brush Hayden off like that. The thought of having dinner with Seb was just too awkward.
"Daddy’s in the car!" Hayden pointed to the back seat.
Susan was stunned for a moment, then looked at Leon.
Leon touched his mouth, not knowing what to say.
Was Seb really sitting in the car? Susan’s eyes turned to the back seat.
For the past few months, it had always been Leon bringing Hayden and Spring to her. Seb had never shown up. Could it be he’d been hiding in the back seat all this time?
