Chapter 242 There's No Need Now
Isabella slapped her mouth, worried her previous jokes might cause trouble for Susan.
Reaching for her phone to dial Susan's number, she hesitated midway. Susan was in the process of rebuilding her life, and Isabella didn't want to disrupt that progress. However, the nagging feeling that Seb's sudden appearance was no happenstance lingered in Isabella's mind. What if Seb was up to something?
After a long pause, Isabella decided not to tell Susan. Susan had found happiness with George, and Isabella had no intention of jeopardizing that. Besides, even if Seb had a plan, Susan wouldn't know how to deal with it.
Meanwhile, Seb sat in the back seat, looking stern.
Leon glanced back and cautiously asked, "Mr. Anderson, are we going to the hospital to pick up Hayden?"
Seb grunted in agreement.
Leon then drove the Mercedes onto the road.
Hayden was being discharged from the hospital that afternoon. With New Year’s around the corner, Hayden's test results were in.
All of Hayden's indicators were normal. The doctor said he had recovered but needed a check-up every three months.
Despite his usually stoic demeanor, Seb couldn't contain his joy. Tears welled up in his eyes, reflecting the relief and happiness he felt.
Eager to share the good news with Susan and reunite her with Hayden, Seb headed to the coffee shop near her office.
He had watched Susan leave work from this coffee shop many times. This time, he wanted to tell her about Hayden and go to the hospital together.
But Isabella showed up first, then Susan. He overheard their conversation.
Susan was with George. Even the composed Seb couldn't control his emotions and accidentally broke a coffee cup.
He couldn't let Susan know his presence. So when the waiter asked, Seb just waved him off.
Seb used to be confident Susan wouldn't fall for another man. But today, that confidence was shattered. She was really with George.
Hearing Susan admit it, Seb's heart skipped a beat. Proud as he was, he couldn't bear it.
Therefore, Seb canceled his plan. He didn't meet Susan but watched her leave with George.
Seeing George take Susan away, Seb had an impulse to rush out and confront him. But reason prevailed, and Seb clenched his fists tightly.
Leon was driving, and Seb sat in the back, silent.
After a while, Leon asked, "Mr. Anderson, weren't you going to explain Hayden's situation to Ms. Wilson?"
Seb remained quiet for a prolonged moment, his thoughts weighing heavily on his mind. Finally, in a somber tone, he responded, "There's no need now."
"Why?" Leon frowned.
"She already has someone else," Seb said, struggling with the words.
Leon was stunned for a moment, then smiled. "Mr. Anderson, are you joking? How is that possible?"
"Maybe I was too arrogant, thinking she wouldn't accept anyone else. I guess I was too confident," Seb said, staring out the window, frustration on his face.
The car fell silent. After a while, Leon spoke up, "Mr. Anderson, maybe you misunderstood Ms. Wilson. Even if she has someone else now, as long as she hasn't married him, you still have a chance. Plus, you two have two kids. Ms. Wilson just doesn't know Hayden is her son. If she knew, she'd come back to you."
Seb's heart stirred, but he couldn't use Hayden to win back Susan. No matter how much he liked her, he wouldn't stoop to that.
Feeling a headache coming on, Seb pinched his brow. "Forget it now. Picking up Hayden from the hospital is the priority."
"Yes." Leon nodded, knowing his place. The car headed straight for the hospital.
Susan got into George's car and asked, "Off work early today?"
"It's New Year’s, and the law firm is practically empty. Everyone's on holiday mode," George said.
"True, the courts are about to go on holiday too," Susan chuckled.
George then asked, "What were you and Isabella talking about?"
Susan's eyes twinkled. "We talked about everything."
"Did you talk about me?" George reached out and held her hand.
"How could we not?" Susan responded with a warm smile, understanding the unspoken question in his eyes.
"What did you say about me? Tell me," George asked, intrigued.
Susan rolled her eyes, thinking. "Isabella envied me for finding a top lawyer and asked for tips."
"What tips?" George asked with a smile.
"You know exactly what I mean." Susan frowned.
"I really don't, that's why I'm asking," George defended.
Susan lowered her head, smiling. "She asked how I managed to win you over."
"And what did you say?" George squeezed her hand.
Susan's eyes flashed, understanding his look. She blushed. "I told her I have a treasure."
"What treasure?" George pursued.
"Because I have a child, and you can't go a day without seeing my child!" Susan answered proudly, raising her chin.
George laughed. "You're right. Tell Isabella to have a child too, then she can find a man!"
"She'd scold me to death!" Susan rolled her eyes at him.
Susan suddenly noticed the car wasn't heading home. She looked at George, surprised. "Aren't we going home?"
"We're going to your mom's place," George replied with a smile.
"Why?" Susan asked, puzzled.
"To bring gifts to Catherine. With New Year's just around the corner, I need to show my sincerity. After all, if I don't win her over, she might not allow you to marry me," George said with a playful smile.
