Chapter 79 Tacit Understanding
Leon, trailing behind Seb, started clearing the area, telling the onlookers, "Stop staring, move along!"
Once the area was clear, only Seb, Cynthia, Isabella, Susan, and Leon were left at the entrance of the inpatient building.
Susan watched Seb coldly, curious about his reaction to Cynthia's complaints. Would he scold her harshly or slap her to vent Cynthia's anger?
"Save your kindness," Seb said to Cynthia, looking down.
Cynthia, looking heartbroken, replied, "Seb, don't misunderstand me."
Seb looked up and instructed Leon, "Leon, take Miss Phillips home!"
"Seb," Cynthia said, her tone filled with dissatisfaction.
Seb didn't say anything more. Cynthia knew his personality too well; if she didn't leave now, she'd only embarrass herself. She glanced at Susan before following Leon away.
Isabella stepped in front of Seb, unafraid, and said, "Mr. Anderson, you haven't divorced Susan yet. Control Cynthia and don't let her yell at Susan!"
Susan frowned at Isabella's boldness. Seb was unpredictable, and she feared he might retaliate.
But Seb didn't seem angry, though his expression remained stern. He looked at Isabella seriously and said, "I remember what you said, but Cynthia is not my responsibility to control!"
Susan didn't understand what Seb meant. Was he unable to control Cynthia, or was he trying to distance himself from her? But could he really distance himself from Cynthia just like that? Susan believed Seb's words didn't imply distancing himself.
After speaking, Seb walked up to Susan and said, "Let's go."
Susan looked at Seb, nodded slightly, and followed him.
Seeing this, Isabella knew she should give them some time alone, so she found an excuse to slip away.
Seb hailed a cab for Susan since Leon had taken the car to drive Cynthia.
Susan sat in the back seat of the cab, while Seb sat in the front passenger seat. They didn't speak the entire way.
Was Seb specifically here to pick her up from the hospital? Susan's eyes gazed at the back of his head.
She didn't know what Seb was thinking. He hadn't shown up at the hospital for seven days. Was this his way of telling her that their only bond was gone and their relationship had reached its end?
No matter what, Seb had come to pick her up from the hospital today. After all, he hadn't done anything wrong to her. Maybe when they got home, he would take out a divorce agreement. Susan told herself that if that happened, she would agree gracefully and not show any sadness in front of him. She didn't want him to think she was trying to gain his sympathy.
Twenty minutes later, the cab stopped at the entrance of the apartment complex.
After paying, Seb got out and opened the door for Susan.
Susan found she couldn't look him in the eye and quickly lowered her head as she got out.
Seb walked ahead, and she followed behind.
Seb deliberately slowed his pace today, but even so, Susan struggled to keep up. She was too weak after childbirth and soon had to stop, bending over to catch her breath.
Leaning against a tree, Susan frowned as she watched Seb walking ahead. She wanted to call out to him but couldn't bring herself to do it.
Seb seemed to realize something and suddenly stopped. He turned around and saw that he had left Susan a hundred feet behind.
Seeing her leaning against the tree, Seb frowned and quickly walked back.
When he reached her, Susan saw his frown and thought he might scold her. But instead, he bent down and picked her up in his arms.
Susan barely had time to think before she felt her body lifted off the ground. Already feeling a bit dizzy, this made her even more disoriented. Involuntarily, she reached out and wrapped her arms around Seb's neck, afraid of falling from his embrace.
The next moment, he was carrying her towards their home.
When Susan came to her senses, Seb had already carried her into the hallway. His embrace was still so warm, and his arms were still so strong.
At this moment, she had a fleeting wish that Seb could carry her like this forever.
But this was clearly a wish that couldn't come true. Susan could only cherish this moment, hoping it would become a beautiful memory.
When they reached the elevator, a glance between them was enough for Susan to press the button.
After the elevator arrived, Seb carried her inside, and she pressed the button for their floor. They didn't exchange a single word the entire time, just a few glances were enough to coordinate until they reached their door.
Susan pressed the doorbell, and Kathy quickly came to open the door.
Seeing Seb carrying Susan, Kathy was stunned for a moment before stepping aside to let them in.
"Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Anderson, you're back." Kathy greeted them happily.
Neither Seb nor Susan spoke. Seb carried Susan inside and directly to the bedroom.
Gently placing her on the bed, Seb's eyes were deep and seemed to have something to say. Susan waited, hoping he would say those two words, but Seb remained silent.
Just then, Kathy appeared at the bedroom door, wearing an apron and smiling. "Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Anderson, lunch is ready. Would you like to eat now?"
"I have something to do, I won't be eating at home," Seb said as he buttoned his coat.
Hearing this, Susan felt a bit disappointed. Seb was leaving again, and she lowered her eyes.
Seeing this, Kathy quickly asked, "Will you be back for dinner?"
At this moment, Susan's ears were eagerly waiting for Seb's answer.
"I've been very busy lately and won't be coming back. Take good care of Susan. Leon will bring groceries on time. Call me if there's anything important." After giving these instructions, Seb's eyes finally fell on Susan.
Hearing this, Susan felt a pang of sadness.
Was Seb drawing a line between them or showing humanitarian concern by delaying the discussion on divorce until a better time, waiting for her to recover first?
Susan suddenly smiled bitterly to herself. To be fair, Seb had been considerate of her. Should she thank him for his kindness?
