Chapter 111 The Bond of Love

The next morning, Susan came downstairs holding a freshly awakened Hayden.

The housekeeper had already tidied up the living room and smiled at Susan. "Ms. Wilson, breakfast is ready."

"Thanks," Susan nodded, carrying Hayden into the dining room.

Inside, she saw Seb in a white shirt, sitting at the head of the table, engrossed in his newspaper, an old habit of his. He didn't look up, and Susan didn't greet him either. She sat down with Hayden to his left.

"Daddy," Hayden called out as soon as they sat.

Seb folded the newspaper and smiled at Hayden. "Hey, buddy, you're up?"

Hayden babbled something.

Susan quickly grabbed some food and tried to feed Hayden. "Come on, Hayden, time to eat."

But Hayden pushed her hand away, refusing to eat.

Susan laughed. "Not in the mood for this today? How about some porridge?"

She tried feeding him porridge, but he still refused, pushing her hand away.

Usually, Hayden ate without fuss, but today he was being difficult. Susan frowned, unsure what to do.

Seb stood up and walked over. "Let me try."

He took Hayden from Susan, sat back down, and offered the same food Hayden had refused. This time, Hayden ate happily, taking big bites.

Susan realized Hayden wanted Seb to feed him. She felt a bit disheartened, seeing the stronger bond between them. She quietly ate her breakfast, feeling like an outsider.

After finishing her meal, Susan stood up. "I'll leave Hayden with you. I need to go to work."

Seb's gentle expression darkened, but he kept his focus on Hayden, saying nothing.

Susan turned to leave, but then Hayden started crying loudly.

She turned back, seeing Hayden reaching out to her, crying in Seb's arms.

Susan glanced at Seb, feeling uneasy but not moving closer.

"Why are you crying?" Seb snapped at Hayden.

Startled, Hayden cried even harder.

In a panic, Susan rushed forward and grabbed Hayden from Seb. "Why did you shout? You scared him!" she snapped.

Seb's face was grim, but he didn't argue. He just watched Hayden curl up in Susan's arms, looking regretful.

"Hayden, it's okay. Don't be scared. Want to go outside and get some sun?" Susan gently stroked his head.

Hayden pointed his chubby hand outside, understanding her words.

Susan carried him out to the garden, walking around and playing with him. Soon, Hayden was laughing, his earlier fright forgotten.

But now, Hayden clung to Susan, making it hard for her to leave. Half an hour later, she sat on the sofa with Hayden on her lap, feeding him milk from a bottle.

Seb sat nearby, reviewing documents but occasionally casting a complicated glance their way.

Suddenly, his phone rang. Seb picked it up, glanced at the number, and answered.

Susan could only hear him say, " Cancel the 10 AM meeting until further notice. That's all."

She frowned slightly and looked at Hayden. "You can go. Hayden won't see you today anyway."

Seb hesitated. "Then work for you one more day. I'll come back early tonight."

"Okay," Susan nodded.

Seb gathered his documents, took one last look at them, and left.

After he was gone, Susan felt a mix of emotions. She never expected to see Seb again like this. It was George's fault for not telling her Hayden was Seb's son.

But if George had told her, would she have agreed to help?

Looking at Hayden, who had finished his milk and was dozing off, Susan's heart softened. She couldn't imagine not taking care of him. Hayden was so adorable that she didn't want to leave him.

Before 5 PM, Seb hurriedly finished his work and got into his car. After a week-long business trip, he was swamped with work. He quickly handled the urgent stuff and headed straight to the suburban villa.

In the car, his phone rang several times before he answered it, sounding impatient.

"Seb, why didn't you answer my calls? You didn't even tell me you were back," Cynthia's voice came through.

Seb frowned. "I just got back. There was a lot to handle at the company, so I didn't have time to answer."
