Chapter 312 Worries

That night, sprawled out on the sofa bed, Susan's eyes were glued to the ceiling.

Isabella, who was also tossing and turning on the bed in the room, asked, "Susan, what are you gonna do?"

The scene of the power outage on the hotel terrace was still fresh in Susan's mind.

"What else can I do? Just gotta wait it out," Susan replied casually, but her brows were all scrunched up.

Hearing this, Isabella flipped over, lying on the bed with her chin in her hands, staring at Susan outside. "Why don't you just skip Monday and send your resignation letter to Pioneer Accounting Firm?"

"No way. I agreed to a one-month probation period. Even if I don't get a permanent spot, they still gotta pay me for the probation period. I've already worked three weeks. If I stick it out for one more week, I can get a month's pay. If I don't show up on Monday, not only will I get canned, but all my hard work for the past three weeks will be for nothing!" Susan replied, frowning.

Hearing this, Isabella nodded and said, "You're right. You've really been through the wringer these three weeks—Fiona's crap, Elliott's harassment, and busting your butt on the Capgemini Software Company budget case. If they don't pay you a dime, you'll be at a huge loss!"

"I don't care about the loss. I just know I need money right now." Susan felt that having cash in hand gave her a sense of security. If she had enough money, she could spend more time with Hayden and Spring, not just seeing Hayden once a week and only being able to take care of Spring at night.

Thinking about not seeing Hayden for another week made Susan's heart somehow ache. And Spring had never spent the night with anyone else. She wondered if Spring would cry with Mary.

"That's why they say being broke sucks," Isabella sighed.

Susan laughed, "I haven't seen you struggling lately. I know you'd spent almost of it."

"Let me enjoy life a bit more, and then I'll start saving money like you." Isabella turned over and rested her head on her arms.

Hearing this, Susan's lips curled up, and her mind drifted off somewhere. Her fingers unintentionally touched her lips, feeling as if Seb's mark was still there.

At dawn, Isabella was awakened by some rustling noises.

Opening her sleepy eyes, Isabella turned her head and saw a figure kneeling in the small living room. Susan was busy packing parcels on the floor.

Looking up at the clock on the wall, it was just past five. Isabella couldn't help but say, "Susan, what are you doing? It's just past five. Why are you messing with these things instead of sleeping?"

Hearing Isabella's complaint from behind, Susan, wearing shorts and a tank top, turned to look at the still sleepy Isabella on the bed and apologized with a smile, "Sorry for waking you up."

"Sleep is the same important to you, you know? You didn't crash until one or two last night. You've only slept a few hours. You're wiped out during the day and often have to take care of the kids. If you keep this up, your body won't be able to take it," Isabella said worriedly.

Hearing this, Susan felt a bit down, but after a moment, she forced a smile. "It's cool; I can handle it! I'm about to be jobless again. Luckily, my online store is doing alright. Looks like I need to keep it going. The money it makes is enough for our living expenses, with some left over."

Isabella got out of bed, still in her underwear.

She plopped down in front of Susan and started packing a parcel box like a pro.

Since Susan moved in, Isabella had been helping her pack parcels whenever she had some free time.

"Why are you helping? Go back to sleep!" Susan reached out to grab the parcel box from Isabella's hands.

"How can I sleep with you making all this racket?" Isabella grabbed the parcel box back from Susan.

Hearing this, Susan frowned, feeling super guilty.

Glancing at the guilty-looking Susan, Isabella smiled and said, "Alright, let's get this done quickly. Spring will be brought over tonight. If we finish these early, you can catch some Z's. If you get sick from exhaustion, I'll have to take care of you."

Hearing this, Susan smiled, her eyes filled with gratitude as she looked at Isabella, then quickly got back to packing.

Susan finished packing the parcels, filled out the forms, and sent them to the courier company.

As soon as Susan left the courier company's door, her phone rang. Looking down, she saw it was Catherine calling.

Catherine asked Susan to meet up, and Susan was down for it.

Lately, they had been meeting in parks or fast-food joints because Dorothy and James had taken over the house. Susan didn't get along with them, and they would argue whenever they met. So, Catherine no longer let Susan come home, and Susan didn't want to go back either. She was annoyed just seeing Dorothy and James.

In a clean and tidy restaurant, Catherine and Susan sat across from each other, with food on the table between them.

Seeing Catherine's worried face, Susan knew the situation at home wasn't good and frowned, asking, "Mom, if you're unhappy, just kick James out."

Hearing this, Catherine sighed.

Seeing Catherine still couldn't make up her mind, Susan anxiously said, "Mom, do you know why James suddenly came back begging for your forgiveness? It's because..."

"It's because Sophia hooked up with a rich guy and dumped James," Catherine interrupted Susan.

Hearing this, Susan looked at Catherine in surprise, thinking, 'Tuva must have told her everything.'

Then, Catherine said, "It's not that I can't bring myself to kick James out, but Dorothy listens to him completely now. Their relationship is so good. What can I do?"

Seeing Catherine's worried look, Susan frowned and asked, "How is Dorothy now?"

"What else? She takes Amanda to bother Henry every day," Catherine replied.

"Didn't Henry already quit the school?" Susan asked.

"Yeah. Now Dorothy goes to Henry's house or his parents' place to cause troubles. I'm worried she might have a bad influence on Amanda. All these bad ideas come from James. I'm worried that if I kick James out, Dorothy will take Amanda and leave with him. At least now I can keep an eye on Dorothy and Amanda. If they leave my sight, who knows what will happen!" Catherine started to cry as she spoke.
