Chapter 120 Docile

Susan and Seb were messaging each other, both looking serious. This way of talking was way more releax than before when one impulsive word could spark a long fight and hurt feelings.

A nurse soon brought Susan her breakfast.

Taking a break to wash her hands, Susan went to the bathroom. She looked in the mirror and frowned.

One side of her face was swollen, and she looked worn out. Touching her face, she thought, 'My face has been through a lot lately, taking several slaps. But I didn't expect to end up in the hospital because of one slap.'

After washing up, Susan returned to the room and saw Seb sitting quietly, waiting for her.

He pointed to the food on the table, signaling her to eat.

Susan nodded, sat on the bed, and took a bite. Suddenly, she thought of something and turned to Seb, inviting him to eat with her.

It was simply a polite gesture, given that hospital food was bland and Seb was picky.

But Seb surprised her by sitting down and even taking her porridge.

Susan had to give him one of the two eggs.

Seb must have been hungry because he devoured the food and seemed to enjoy it.

In the end, Susan only had a little chicken soup and one egg; Seb ate the rest.

But Susan wasn't upset. In her toughest times, she never expected Seb to be by her side, even standing up to George for her.

When Susan looked up, she accidentally met Seb's gaze. His eyes were gentle, touching the softest part of her heart.

Seeing her gaze, Seb frowned slightly. Susan looked pitiful; usually fierce like a leopard, now she was as docile as a kitten.

Meeting Seb's eyes, Susan quickly looked down, pretending to wipe the table with a napkin.

She felt very nervous!

Susan scolded herself, 'You're a divorced woman. How can you still be so easily swayed by a man?’

‘You've been through a lot; you can't act like a young girl anymore, especially not with Seb, who is so unpredictable. Remember what happened last time?'

After a while, Seb still hadn't cleaned up the table. Susan thought, 'Is he still staring at me?'

When she looked up, she saw Seb had already walked to the window to make a phone call.

Wasn't this just bullying her because she was deaf? She thought Seb was still sitting across from her. She had forgotten she couldn't hear now!

Seeing this, Susan got out of bed and cleaned up the dishes herself.

When she came back, Seb was still on the phone.

Seb had been on the phone for half an hour. He usually hated long calls; what was up today?

Suddenly, it hit Susan: 'Seb's working on the phone?'

Looking at the clock, it was past eight. Seb would usually be on his way to work. He must have been giving instructions to his team.

Realizing she was delaying his work, Susan felt guilty.

Finally, Seb finished his call and hung up.

Seeing Susan, Seb raised an eyebrow. Susan quickly typed on her phone.

[Go to work?]

[I can work from here.]

[I can be here alone. I can eat and sleep; I just can't hear.]

[But.]

[No buts. If you want, you can come back after work.]

After typing this, Susan's face felt hot. She wondered, 'Would he want to come? Was she being too hopeful?'

The next moment, Seb gently pushed her onto the bed.

[Rest here. I'll come back after handling things at the office.] Seb typed.

Susan nodded obediently.

Only then did Seb head towards the door.

Suddenly, Susan thought of something and wanted to call Seb. But she wasn't confident in her speaking ability now. In a hurry, she grabbed two tissues, crumpled them into a ball, and threw them at Seb's back!

The tissue ball hit Seb squarely on the head, making Susan burst into laughter.

Seb touched the back of his head, turned around, and saw the tissue ball on the ground. Looking up at Susan, he caught her bright smile.

This was the first time Susan had smiled since yesterday. Seb was momentarily stunned, then realized this was her way of calling him, so he walked back to the bed.

Seeing him coming, Susan quickly stopped smiling and typed on her phone.

[Don't tell my mom I'm in the hospital. She has a weak heart. If she knows I'm deaf, she won't be able to handle it.]

Seb nodded, then frowned slightly and typed a line.

[You're not deaf, just temporarily unable to hear.]

[Just remember what I said.] Susan knew Seb was just trying to comfort her. Maybe she really couldn't hear anymore. She wasn't ready to accept that.

Seeing the sadness on Susan's face, Seb looked at her deeply but said nothing. He just pressed her shoulder firmly with his hand and then walked out of the room.

Susan knew what Seb meant; it was his way of giving deep encouragement and comfort. Watching Seb leave, she felt much better, less panicked.

She realized she might have misjudged Seb before. Despite feelings, Seb was truly a good person.
